Why isn't it possible to convert MKV versions to MP4? For several A lot of DVD's (video_TS) are replaced with MKV (HD) verisons of the movie, but to convert those movies to MP4 (for play on ipad) I have to add the VIDEO_TS folders again :(

It would be great if I could use the MKV's as a source for the convert proces.

Because we do not copy discs in as MKV.

The video converter have been created for content copied in by My Movies.

Oke I understand, but will the functionality be extended in the future, so it is also possible to convert 'manually added' movies to MP4?

mkv to mp4 is a simple process to convert they don't even need any transcoding its a simple matter of demuxing the mkv and muxing to mp4, there are plenty of free programs to do this and the process is done in a matter of a few minutes.

my advice is given to help, my advice might not always be the best solution but is given to the best of my knowledge, my advice is not always approved by MyMovies and often isn't, if my advice ever suggests changing in any way a title from what is contributed on the webservice please insure no invalid changes are contributed, please read the following guides Disc Title Contribution Guide, Contribution Introduction, TV Series Contribution Guide

It is still something that must be implemented in the system and handled in various ways.

Do not expect it.

Totally agree. I know that MKV is not native to MM, and they do not copy discs to that format, but the reality is that I'd be willing to bet that LOTS of us have TB's of video files in MKV format! I'd love it if MM would do this for me as automated (perhaps in MM it could do the conversion and then be internally aware of the new file name - I envision doing these conversion and then having to redo thousands of movie and tv pointers)

As someone who has literally TB's of MKV and AVI files, what's the best and fastest way to get this stuff all to MP4 as automated as possible?

Now what would be REALLY awesome (and I know this is even as less likely as what we are talking about) is if we could select a episode or movie in MM and it would launch AirVideo and play the file! Then it wouldn't matter what format it was!

Still, I have been toying with many different methods of media playing and management (MB, Apple TV, ATV jailbroken with XBMC, PLEX, etc.) and I just keep coming back to MM!!!

I think this would be great to see added also. As an aside, handbrake will natively process an .mkv as an input file, in fact handbrake will accept almost any video format as an input. Though I'm no programmer and may be missing some aspect of the process, to do a conversion "in place" I would think it is just a matter of being able to pass the file location stored in the DB to handbrake, let handbrake do it's thing, then pass the new name/location of the output file back into the DB. Maybe have an option for an "in place" conversion to completely automate the process, or an "external" conversion where the converted file is placed in the location already specified in the server settings pages without replaceing the original file.

Thanks for a great program!
