I'm having a difficult time determining the proper path configuration for attached drives. Here's my setup-
Right now I have a 4 bay Mediasonic enclosure connected to my pc, along with a USB thumb drive for the index. The volume label of the first hard drive (M:) is "Movies1." I am using Collection Management, and want to directly connect the drives to my Dune. When I click on a particular movie for the disc location, it says "1 disc (online) - 'M:\Media\Movies\Charade'." I've tried various paths, and clean and update the index each time. But when I check the "media_url=" line in the thumb drive index, it is always blank after the "=". Anyone have a suggestion for what I should be putting in my path configuration to make this work? Thanks.

don't use dune, but what i understand..
well the dune will be accessing froma network share, not from M

you should be setting the path via network unc

i.e. \\pc name\movies1\movie folder name

so on

It is meant to be an attached drive directly to the Dune through USB, so no network share.

even if the mediasonic is attached to the dune, you need to use UNC path for every disc location. You can set it as UNC path wether it's connected to your PC or connected to your dune and accessed through your network (that's the best solution IMO).

Once this is done, in CM go to option/metadata/dune config and in the window opening select a path (should be red ticked) click on "configure path". Select "attached drive" and type the exact name (with caps and small letters if needed) of of the drive in the "name" field, once done the path should be green ticked. Do this for every drive/path you will see in this config window.

run a full update of the index.

The problem I am having is that no matter what I type in the path configuration, in the index the field after the URL is blank. After I type in the path configuration, I always clean the index, apply, then update. I then check the result in the index, and the URL always is blank.

By the way, I was wanting to use the attached drive configuration in the first place, but even if I wanted to access the movies through the network, I can't, because a lightning strike blew out the network connection on my Dune last year. So I have to attach drives through USB, or not at all, unless I buy a new Dune.

Can you post a screen shot of your path configuration in MMCM, and paste the entire dune_folder.txt that has the media_url= line.

First, here's what I've been seeing in the USB Thumb Drive/My Movies/.DuneTitles/1/TitleStructure/PlaybackFolder/dune_folder
icon_path=.Icon.aai
icon_sel_path=.SelectedIcon.aai
media_url=
template_name=PlaybackFolder

Here is the screenshot. Note that this is about the 8th different path configuration I have tried.

Try setting the path configuration to "Movies1". That is all. Exactly 7 characters.

If that doesn't work, try using the UNC path to point to the movie (instead of M:) as suggested above. Then set the Path Configuration for that. You can try it out with just a single movie first, if that's easier.

I tried both. Same result in the dune_folder.txt

For the UNC path I used
\\My Computer's name\Movies1\Media\Movies\Metropolis

My wild guess is that you've exposed some obscure bug in MMCM because your setup is screwy somewhere.

As a last resort, backup the MMCM database then delete all movies from MMCM except for one. Set that movie's path to the UNC path, then do the Path Configuration for that one path. (The others will disappear from the list, I believe, since they are no longer being used.) Then paste another screenshot of your Path Configuration if it's still not working.

I don't know whether this is important, but when I installed Collection Management, (My Movies 4.02) it gave me three choices on what to install. I wasn't sure which one to choose, so I selected the first option.

I deleted all the movies but one. I then set the Path Configuration. Still shows Media_URL=

Based on your screenshot, you do not appear to be using the UNC path to locate the movie. I'm talking about on the little disc icon on the movie page, not in the Options screen.

Once you use UNC there, your Path Configuration should list one path: \\Numenor\Movies1 (instead of where it currently shows M:\). Then the "Configure Dune Path" box will have some extra options not currently shown, like NFS/SMB/Attached radio buttons. I forget the exact names. For the Path Configuration you should pick Attached and the Name should be "Movies1".

The idea of the Path Configuration is that it is a translation between how this drive is accessed from your PC vs how this drive is accessed from the Dune.

Hang in there, we'll get this all working.

Ok, when I double click on the disc icon, I see that I have the option to choose between Online (folder), Online (file), etc. This was set to Online (folder). Does this need to be changed, and if so, to what?

Either one is fine, but the path to that file or folder needs to use UNC, not M:\Whatever.

I guess I'm having a problem figuring out what appropriate UNC should be. Everything I have tried to put in the "Location (Side A)" field, it tells me "The location specified for Disk Side A does not exist." I would have thought that something like "\\Numenor\Movies1\Media\Movies\Metropolis" would work.

You might need to enable file sharing for that drive? How that is done will depend on what OS you're using.

Or you could plug the Mediasonic into the Dune, where it will show up on the network as \\Dune\Movies1, and then you could enter that path into MMCM.
