It would be nice to have an option in the main Media Center Start Menu, to have items in the strip that would open a filtered list. For instance, have a strip titled "Kids" which has Movies, TV, Music, and when selecting one of those items it opens the database only with the filters you have set for kids. Then in another strip have grown-up titles for Movies and TV. I know you can do this once in Media Center, but it would be simpler to set strip items that would directly open a custom filtered catalog.

One additional feature I would like is to manually deploy these customizations to all clients. Unless I'm missing something, on each client you have to setup the views and general My Movies client settings. It would be nice to set this on the server so you didn't have to go around the house updating all the clients with each customization.

I think this could be done with a previous request I made, which got quite a few +1s:

And +1 for copying configs between clients!

What you posted is exactly what I want to do - have separate selections in the main media center menu which would filter like you mention (documentaries, kids movies, etc). Your post was from awhile ago, wonder why it wasn't implemented - it's a great idea.

I'm imagining the same type of thing, quick access to "recently added" directly from the MCE Movies strip (just to the right of "movies" for example) The ability to place various filtered tv strip menu items would be perfect. The best I can do now is add a link that shows up in the upper left once inside movies itself. It's not perfect but get's the job done for now. Having easier access to this via the main menu for quick browsing of recently added would be fantastic.

I have my Media Library setup to go to the Genre by default. Have you looked at this option. You can add several things to the strips. You can then set them to link to filters or collections. Since you can have two strips Movies & TV and can rename them this could be an alternative for you. You can set this up inside of CM and Windows Media Center.

Are you saying we can already add custom things to the root main menu strips that point both Genre or Recently Added filter? I played around and could only figure out how to add the custom link once you're already inside Movies or TV Series. I'll have another look for what you said, but please list more details if you read this. I'll edit my findings later if I figure it out.

no you can't.

my advice is given to help, my advice might not always be the best solution but is given to the best of my knowledge, my advice is not always approved by MyMovies and often isn't, if my advice ever suggests changing in any way a title from what is contributed on the webservice please insure no invalid changes are contributed, please read the following guides Disc Title Contribution Guide, Contribution Introduction, TV Series Contribution Guide

Sorry this is what I was talking about, I thought you could modify more but it's limited to the TV Series, Movie Lib, and Media Lib.

This is my Media Lib;

This is an example of the drop-down options;

This is an example using Category. The same thing can be setup for Genre & Filter

After this is set you can go to the Media Center Start Menu Options and change one of them to Media Library.

I agree maybe there should be an option to select a Filter or Category in the Media Center Start Menu Item list.

ability to have more libraries is in my opinion the ideal solution, would have thought it would be easy to impliment too, if Brian's listening please consider this feature request, pretty, pretty please Wink

Recently Added showing up in Plex was the first feature I appreciated when my friend showed me his setup. I will continue using My Movies though because of the great Xbox media center integration and I'm happy with everything else. I know my movies is limited on what they can do inside media center since it's not a stand alone app, but yes recently added on the main strip would be just about the only thing missing I'd love to see.
