I can rip and convert DVD and Bluray moves no problem. I wanted to store and convert my old HD DVD collection so I picked up an HD DVD and Bluray combo drive. The movie is ripped but fails to convert. Anyone been able to convert HD DVD movies? I am running latest version of MyMovies whs 2011 2.11 and trying to convert to Apple TV 3 M4V. thanks for any help.

Thanks for your reply. I am saving it to Folder not as .ISO as when I saved Bluray as .ISO it would fail to convert unless i saved as a Target folder instead. I deleted the failed copy in the conversion folder then tried to go to titles and add to converter from there and i get a message that the disk 1 was not added as HD DVD is not supported? i thought it was supported. Sorry , not sure where I get the log file from.

I will try to change the copy to .ISO to see if that helps

thanks again for any help

Thanks for the reply.
Darn, I did not know that :(

I was hoping to get these to view via my Apple TV as they look really good that way. SO the only way to view HD DVD is using an HTPC? Don't have one set up nor did i plan to. Cant even use XBOX 360 unless they are MP4 and since cant convert HD DVD to any format, I guess i am out of luck. I had originally tried using reg format Mp4 and viewing via my XBOX 360 but the picture and sound is much better in Apple TV 3 format, and the XBOX 360 gets hot and fans start to get too loud. Which is why I chose M4V instead.

Anyone using another format to view HD DVD collection besides HTPC?

thanks again

I think using HD DVD will become more and more of a problem.

It is for sure not anything we focus on development wise any longer.

I am now trying to use a PC to view my HD DVD collection. I cant seem to get them to play. i have Any DVD HD installed, and was getting error that I did not have an image mounter. I thought Any DVD HD would handle that. So I installed Virtual Cloedrive from same company and I now get message that I need an image mounter that can play HD DVD. any help would be appreciated. thank you

AnyDVD* is not an image mounter.

I think Virtual CloneDrive supports HD DVD.

What is the exact message you receive?

Make sure that you reboot after installing CloneDrive.

* Installing and/or using AnyDVD is illegal in some countries. Users are themselves responsible for complying with local law when installing and using AnyDVD.

Yes i didi try virtual Clone Drive but the message said I needed an image mounter that supports HD DVD. So I dont think it supports HD DVD. However, I installed daemon Tools and now I get message that says' I need a player that supports HD DVD. Still trying. thanks

Thanks for the suggestion on Arcsoft. I just installed Cyberlink bluray disc suite which includes power DVD 9 and still get the error that i need HD DVD compatible player. Arcsoft looks very similar and neither state specifically that they play HD DVD. I am afraid to spend the extra $100 on this just yet. maybe its something with my setup or hardware. Not sure. I have the files on my WHS2011 with MyMovies. using a laptop to first try to play the movies from there before even trying to connect to TV. I have MyMovies client on the laptop, using the included media player which sees all the movies and plays all except the HD DVD ISO files. I installed Daemon Tools which allows me to mount the ISO, but cant get past the message that i need a compatible HD DVD player. :(

thanks for all the help on this from everyone.

I will keep trying but i am afraid i may just have to get blue ray copies of my HD DVD movies and use them to convert to M4V and play from my AppleTV3 which works pretty good. Only thing is that the menu is not as nice and intuitive as with mymovies and media player. Also the fact that if during the long conversion process, the movie metadata and clipart is not recognized, i am stuck with no cover art and when it does find it, it cannot add to the already converted M4V file.

tmt is a free download for 15 days. You can download the full program, see if it works with your hd dvd rips, then decide of you want to pay for it. It works for me, and if you search the web, you can find discount coupons for tmt...

Good luck!
