Hi,
I recently purchased the iPhone pro app, and I'm extremely impressed with it...
I love how the bookshelf displays all of my titles, and all I have to do to watch it on my TV, is click on the title, and press play...
My wife just came home, so I started telling her all about it...The first thing she said was "Can I watch a movie directly on the iPhone (Or iPad) just by pressing the title?
While explaining to her the logistics of this, I said that I would list it as a suggested enhancement...
So...
1. Is it possible to add the function of watching movies directly on the iPhone when clicking on the title? 2. Is it possible to do this over WI-FI as well as 3G or 4G? 3. Is it possible to transcode the direct DVD rips (.VOB) on the fly directly from a server to an iPhone for our viewing pleasure?
Am I just dreaming?
Thanks for reading...

Would be great to see this as an enhancement, or.......
Maybe a feature to copy a transcoded version of selected titles to the device for viewing on the Bus/Train, etc.

Hi, Now that I think about it, having movies stream over 3G network is going to kill any data plan, But I'd still like to see streaming movies over WI-FI without all the rigmarole of having to convert it ourselves first, then stream...and so on. A suggestion is that it could be called 'Movies on Demand' Patent Pending... or 'Fly by WI-FI' (Yeh, that's mine) which would mean that all of the transcoding is done on the fly and we simply sit back and enjoy our streaming movie... I'm sure Brian could rig it that the converting also places the file on the iPhone so it can be viewed on a bus/train as well... As the saying goes though "Give them an inch, and they'll take a mile". It's already a great app, but I would love to see all of this as well...

Australia has a few data plans, but the cost doesn't make the 3G venture worth pursuing...Stick to the WI-FI. http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/browsing_packs.html

It's because of the potential for features and things like this that I kept my unlimited data plan on my iPhone. I am grandfathered on the plan because I got unlimited when I bought the first iPhone so many years ago. I've contemplated getting rid of it because tethering will not work on a unlimited plan. But since my iPad has its own data plan... guess I will stick with my unlimited data on the iPhone and hope that a feature like this can be developed some day. I know it doesnt exactaly integrate as well as my movies but the app air video works great for streaming videos to your iPhone or iPad. I havnt personally tried it over 3G but it is availiable. It converts the videos are the fly from your computer so you can stream almost anything. I don't believe it can do video_ts folders tho. But for watching .mkv, .avi, or .mp4 videos it works top notch.

Great find balsman225!
I've just installed the 'Air Video' app and it's become pretty clear that this is all very achievable...And on the fly!
The app does handle .VOB (VIDEO_TS) files as well as the previously mentioned, but can only handle one .VOB at a time, but there is no function with the menu options on the DVD files.
The app also doesn't see .ISO images, but this is still a top notch app as previously mentioned.
On this note, the My Movies app could potentially be setup to read and convert an ISO image on the fly. This way it sees only the one file (Keeping the library clutter free), and hopefully, the functions inside the DVD menu could also be active (Desirably)
This has to be done!
Looking at it from the creators point of view, I think this would be a viable pickup!

I've been playing with the 'Air Video' app a bit more, and so long as you have the port forwarding setup correctly on your router (Port 45631 or a port of your choosing), it's a seamless transition from watching a movie over WI-FI to 3G.
No additional transition configuration is necessary when switching between the two spectrums...All automatic.
It's not a very pretty app, but it's function, even with the free version, is very good.
Converting: This app gives you the option of converting your movie in its original directory by selecting the option inside the app (Converts to .m4v format using .H264), or the ability to watch your movie while transcoding is carried out on the fly.
Converting is pretty quick as well...23min Simpsons episode in 2 1/2 mins.
With Binnerups DVD bookcase interface, and this video conversion/viewing technology combined, it's a winning combination.

Going by the latest newsletter from 'My Movies', it doesn't look like there are any plans for this in the immediate future...
I'm glad the air video app was unearthed to tide us over.
Looking forward to future developments with my movies....

+ DVB Logic Network pack for iPhone Live TV + Airplayer UPNP for Pictures. I want my 7MC with me while on the GO! Perhaps we need a Medica Center Extender App for iPhone

This is something we are considering, but it not as easy as it sounds.
The iPad/iPhone uses a very specific protocol for streaming - you can't just pass it a video.
It does this so that it can jump in the video over the network.
It is something we likely will be looking at supporting, but it is not anytime soon due to the amount of time involved.

I have used air video for a while now. It is BY FAR one of the best apps out there. Forget handbrake and loading a movie on to your phone/iPad this is magic it does 3G with no probs!!
All I need now is my cable subscription (foxtel) via wi-fi & I will have all my media set!!

Great to hear that this is on the roadmap, even if distant!
While we wait for MyMovies to develop this support, an available alternative is to use a Dune Player with a Slinbox Pro HD, which means you lose MCE but you don't have to keep any device switched on (apart from the Slinbox and your router/modem of course) when they are not in use.
You can control the Dune (or any other compatible device) over 3G or Wifi, and of course it uses the max bandwidth depending on the connexion and the device you are streaming the video on.
It's great to access all your titles while you're away (or even in the house over Wifi) using the MyMovies Index on the Dune, and of course you get TV/Cable/Satellite as well if they are connected to the Slingbox.
I'm using this on the iPad2 and it's a real dream as you don't have to convert anything, it's entirely on-the-fly.
Best combination at the moment IMHO, although not inexpensive of course.
Talking of which, don't get a cheaper Slingbox Pro, Slingplayer is not compatible with the iPad. You need the Slingbox Pro HD or you're limited to the iPhone.
Slingplayer works fine on Android and Windows Mobile if that's your poison.

I followed your response up with them. Here's what they said...
Hi,
we can not support ISO files with our current live conversion pipeline. We are working on a more flexible way that will allow us to support ISO files in future.
Kind regards, Matej Knopp InMethod
