I think it would be great to allow customizable groups and customizable fields for any given title -- FOR INSTANCE: I would like to be able to add the following:
1. custom group for titles bought to give away, with custom fields
-- who I give/gave it to
-- intend/ed to give it to,
-- etc.
-- as a suggestion, add 5 custom/personal fields to every title for users to do what they want with
2. my rental history (i.e. titles I have rented, along with the date(s) I rented it) -- though that might already be there as rented and pre-rented
3. future ideas

Try using Categories in the meantime. You can have as many as you want. ie: Movies for Mum, or Brought as a gift.

Yes, this is what personal categories are intended for.
You will from the next release be able to hide and override the name of the groups, but that is mainly for users who wants to hide the "Sales" groups and rename "Owned, for keeps" to just "Owned" as an example.

I'm currently using version 1.11 (not sure when this was released) and I can already "rename" a group. But the "renaming" doesn't really work as it only renames it on the left hand bar. Every time I add a movie and it asks me which group to put it in to, it still uses the old names. So now it's double confusing as the names that appear everywhere else in the software do not match the names on the left hand navigation.
When will we be able to truly rename a group?

The problem with categories is, it's not so simple to filter on them and a lot of work to add to a collection filling them in.
I'll explain..
We (my family, 2 sons, one wife and I) are just trailing the software on multiple devices. We want to be able to add 1000+ DVD's into the system and they are owned by various family members. Scanning them and putting the category on will take a long time, but scanning and setting a group would be very quick.
Then there is searching to see if we have the DVD when in the shop, in order to see who owns it, you need to scroll though the DVD details to find the category, but you can see the group right underneath the title.
We aren’t interested in the groups as they come with the apps - we buy to watch and keep, not rent, give away etc, So if we could truly change the category name and have that name appear everywhere (not by one name somewhere and another in another menu), that would work well.
Alternatively, being able to set the category easily and quickly as we scan in the DVD and to be able to show Category in place of Group, under the title, would work well.
But we would need this for iOS (iPhone/iPad), OSX, Windows and the Online Collection (because our friends want to know who owns the DVD).
Any chance this could be done anytime?

I am in the same situation as the above! Three of us share one household and we want the groups to be named by whom owns them, etc. I agree that the alias only works on the left side of the browsing screen but not the input screens! This is really a go or not go for purchasing the program for iPad, iPhone and Mac. I am using the free and would be very interested in the Pro if the groups could be customized fully!

I agree with the others, Ive just downloaded this for my PC, iPad & Android. I have a physical DVD library then movies on 2 different HardDrives, I want to be able to 'categorize' these, like member RCMACDON mentions above, to see these split into groups so I know whats what.
I could then see whats on my HDD1 & HDD2 & in my physical library.... I know I will forget if I have a certain movie either on my HDD or in dvd case..... BIG hunt then begins when I want to watch it! arghhhhh

Hi i thank i have the same problem
so when i change the name of the category (Gruppe) is it then also possible to sort it for the report print out
havnt found something
i wud like to have a list which bd has my son and another one for my bd
