As Microsoft has announced that Windows 8 will not come bundled with Media Center and that it will only be available on Professional editions and above as a paid separate download, what does this mean for My Movies?
Are there plans to create an app for the start screen that will list your movies and allow you to select one to watch? If this is the case how will you deal with codecs as Microsoft won't be including common codecs with Windows 8?
Or will My Movies only function if you pay for Media Center? Obviously the collection management should work but I'm interested to see where My Movies is headed from a front end interface perspective.
On another note, I would happily pay for my movies if native codec support was added so DVDs and BluRays etc played out of the box so to speak.
As I've said before, thanks for making such a great piece of software.

I second that, mymovies is a great piece of software and I'd pay for the extra package on windows 8 if it means I could run mymovies.

My Movies needs to consider becoming a self contained app and remove the Media Center dependency IMO.

Me too. Windows Media Center is dying a slow death. I would gladly pay for a standalone app.

I strongly doubt My Movies will become a standalone application.
We believe that My Movies is a great part of a Media Center, but PART of, meaning that without the other parts a Media Center holds, it would be lacking.
For now, My Movies will continue the path of supporting Windows Media Center, which is still in Windows 8, however as an add-on option.
It is likely we at some point will offer a Metro application as an alternative.

There is no doubt that although we find Windows Media Center to be a great product, Microsoft is not focusing on it.

I just posted somewhere else in a topic about it, but certainly the ability that MM has to export the information is fantastic. Of course there is only so much you can focus on developing for (and maintaining). The J River Media Center certainly looks interesting, especially as you mentioned MS seems to be losing interest in WMC (which is an absolute shame). Anyways, hopefully at the very least you can work out ways to export the data to a variety of front end apps and devices. You guys rock :)

For sure, we will not be developing for a niche product such as J River.
Storing meta-data for it is a totally different thing, and that is very likely that we will do that.
Creating add-on applications however requires a much larger user base.
