Which is the correct way of tagging TV Episodes on a DVD when there are multiple episodes per DVD Title.

Do you tag all the DVD chapters that have the episode in question, or just the first in the episode?

eg: Which of the below is correct?

or

The example at http://www.mymovies.dk/how-to/written-documentation.aspx?Page=Connecting_DiscTitle_to_TVSeries isn't really clear

Quote:
Please be aware that it is not necessarily all titles or chapters on a disc that corresponds to an episode, and you should only mark the ones the do, as seen in the next picture.

But the example image has TV Episodes changing at DVD Titles.

Thanks for any help.

Not entirely sure of your location as to how your DVD's are authored but here in the UK our DVD's similar to how your examples are shown. But you are not going to get the Mapping correct the way you are "tagging" them.

First of run the watch the DVD via Windows Media Player and ensure to have the "SHOW LIST" enabled so as to see which Title refers to which Episode (you don't have to watch the whole episode to get the required Title number)

Then in CM using the Disc's area as indicated in your example select "Title number" corresponding to that which you found in Windows Media Player, from there you can then Select "Season Number" and "Episode Number" so that you can enable the TV Mapping.

So the 2 ways you have Indicated are both WRONG.

And don't just ASSUME that the first Title refers to the first episode on the DVD either as the manufacturer's quite often mix them up. I have several whereby the First Episode for that particular disc is the fifth/sixth Title into the DVD structure.

Even the Written Documentation points you in the right direction, but you have selected differently. Try reading the documentation again, pay attention to the "Now we got the Edit Episodes window where you can see all the titles and chapters on the disc. Here we match either the titles or chapters to the episodes by setting the mark in the first column and then selecting the season and episode number. " area, approximately half way down the page.

This is an Australian remastering of a US Anime release

On this DVD, ALL the episodes are in one Title

The start of the first episode below

The start of the second ppisode below

The start of the third episode below

and so on....

As you can see from the above, just using the title number for the Episode wouldn't work, hence my question about selecting one or many chapters.

I didn't make that mistake.

And the written example only gives an example where each episode was it's own title. I think updating the Written Documentation with an example like mine would be useful for users in the future.

If I select only the first Chapter for each episode, the episode time marked won't match the real episode time.
If I select all the Chapters for each episode, the episode time will be correct, but could be confusing for the software.

If the episodes are all chapters of the same title, then you mark the chapters rather than the title. Unfortunately this isn't really going to work well in the end, because while WMC can be told to start in the correct position, it is unable to stop it automatically so playback will continue to the end of the title.

So what is the best option for me to use? For an episode, pick all the chapters, or just the first chapter?

Thanks.

If the episode is the whole title, then you mark the title itself.

If the episode is one chapter of a title, where multiple episodes are in the same title, then mark just the chapter.

If the episode is like above, except as multiple chapters, I think you should just mark the first chapter of the episode. I am not certain, but I think it is potentially problematic to use the same season & episode more than once.

Again, when episodes are mapped as chapters, you'll have to stop playback yourself since it will just play to the end of the title.
