I've been using MM for a long time and love using it to power my whole home theater experience. I just updated windows to Windows 8 and no more Windows Media Center :( are there any alternatives? ive browsed the entire forum but have not found anything. Any ideas or plans for the future?

listen97 Your report from the link is well out of date. (October 2011) Micro$oft have since announced that Windows 8 will not ship with Windows Media Center at all. Read the quote again it will remain in the Final Version (what is released for sale), they just are not sure if it will be in the Consumer Preview (the free download before release) or as mentioned in your post as an add-on. They seem to really be going after the Marketplace idea so I'd go with a separate download. Not including it in the Windows release makes sense because if others can charge for a Media Center program why can't Microsoft and just charge less for the Versions w/o it.

It is quite simple.
Windows Media Center is an add-on purchase to the Pro version of Windows 8.
It will be unavailable in any other Windows 8 versions, and it will not be included with the Pro version, but can be purchased separately.
In the current release preview, it takes another license key to install it.
This means that Windows Media Center is still available, but not as easy as it was before.

A few days ago i watched windows 8 consumer periew really
it's was awesome. I think w8 much better to all operating system.

So what is the general consensus about upgrading to Windows 8? With the recent announcement of a $39.99 upgrade price (http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/07/02/upgrade-to-windows-8-pro-for-39-99.aspx) I wonder if I should be looking to upgrade? This is the pro version, so Media Center can be added.

Is their any reason why My movies would drop support for Windows 7, like they did with Vista? If they do then an upgrade would be smart while the price is cheap. If Windows 7 is going to be supported for a really long time I might wait for Window 9.

So I am wondering if their is going to be a feature in Win 8 that My Movies wants to use and will drop Win 7 for it? I also have an Xbox, but I am not a fan of the Metro UI. I suppose it may be more user friendly on an HTPC, but on my HTPC I have it automatically load WMC, so I don't ever see the desktop.

Unless Microsoft are going to start allowing Blu-ray support directly in the Xbox, starting with the 360, I can't see them getting very far in hoping the by removing WMC from Windows in a vain attempt to promote the xbox as a media center will work.
And I doubt if everybody will rush and replace their 360 with a 720 (whenever it is released) either. I certainly won't.

I'm liking the look of Windows 8. MyMovies guys, How about making a great MyMovies Windows 8 (and windows phone 8) Movie/TV app that can be used like you plugin does now to get the nice metadata. This would be a logical move forward seeing that MS are trying to move away from the use of Media Centre..
The Video app currently is not that well designed for a large movie collection (and worse for TV collections)

I tried the Windows 8 consumer preview for a few months. It was interesting concept but really screwed with local network connections. They want you to sign in with a Microsoft user ID but then it will not connect automatically with local network connections using a normal user name / password scenario. Then if you get rid of the MS user ID there are certain functions of Windows 8 that do not work properly. I finally got tired of it and went back to windows 7. I guess it would probably work fine if all my computers were Windows 8 but I am not going to upgrade all of them just to satisfy Microsoft's attempt at getting everyone to sign up for a MS ID. Windows 7 is rock solid and straight forward and I think it will be awhile before Windows 8 is such. Carl.
