I have noticed lately the ever increasing instances of spammers on the forum, good work to the admin for there quick removal of the posts but it really annoys me for 1 I have set my preferences to email me the majority of the new posts on the forum and getting sick of the amount of advertising spam that is coming in and 2 the cheek of the posters of this %$# to do this. I'm sure Brian and the admin are equally if not more pissed than I am about this and I wonder if something could be done about it. I have a few ideas would love to know what you think, how about to register a profile you must enter correctly answer some multiple choice questions relating to the mymovies product if they have to put time and effort into learning about the product first it may deter some of them and to be honest it may not be a bad thing even for genuine users to get a basic grasp of how things work, another idea don't know if it would be possible but if there was a way of preventing users with no titles in there collection from posting as I'm sure none of the spammers do. I assume they would have there profiles deleted if they did.

my advice is given to help, my advice might not always be the best solution but is given to the best of my knowledge, my advice is not always approved by MyMovies and often isn't, if my advice ever suggests changing in any way a title from what is contributed on the webservice please insure no invalid changes are contributed, please read the following guides Disc Title Contribution Guide, Contribution Introduction, TV Series Contribution Guide

yes Carl I'm sure that is the case but the likely hood is that these 'humans' if you so wish to call them that (I could think of some other names for them) don't know jot about mymovies so therefore if something was put in place like what I suggested I may just stop them or at least reduce the number.

they just annoy me! but really doubt they would go to the trouble of reading through pages of info to be able to join a forum they surely are more likely to just move on to another forum.

Oh well it was an idea.

How about just restricting the ability to post to those with say 200 points or more or whatever arbitary figure you wish Spammers would not pay to be able to spam.

Only problem with that is it risks alienating the legit new members (like my good self).

As a mod on another forum I can understand the frustration for the users as well as sympathise with the staff when it comes to dealing with these pests, especially as it's getting harder & harder to stop them!
