My Movies Developer or Company InviteOver the past year, My Movies and it's users have spend a lot of resources on making My Movies a great resource for movie data though My Movies' Collection Management program, it's WebService and folder monitoring options. This also means that we are now beginning to see other parties getting interested in using the My Movies data for alternative purposes.
Since we would like our users to be able to benefit as much as possible from their built collection in My Movies, we are now looking to open up our back-end technologies for other parties, both as an commercial option, as well as a free of charge option.
My Movies is
already able to function as a data provider for Microsoft's "My DVD's" in Media Center 2005, and "DVD library" in Windows Vista by supplying these with detailed and localized meta-data through it's Collection Management program and "Folder Monitoring" options.
It is only natural that some users usage senarios changes over time, and My Movies is not always able to follow them. While My Movies is currently based on a Hosted HTML front-end technology, and before the summer ends will be released in a more rich MCML based front-end, My Movies' front-end may not be what all users prefer, or companies prefer for their products. Some users may use Microsofts light-weight, and more limited "DVD library", some may user other Media Center based front-ends, and others may even have decided to use alternative Media Center software such as Media Portal or others, and, while some users prefers advanced and detailed front-ends, others may prefer more light-weight solutions.
We would like to invite other developers or companies to be able to base their front-ends on the My Movies back-end, which means that their users will be able to benefit from all My Movies' back-end features, such as:
- The "Collection Managment" program, with advanced data editing capabilities.
- The "Online Collection" option, giving users the option to display their collection to friends.
- The "Folder Monitoring" option, that is able to automatically index titles stored on harddrives.
Special packages of My Movies will be made available to third parties interested in these options, where the My Movies front-end is no longer part of the package, and where configuration for My Movies front-end is not available. These packages will also be redistributeable, unlike the current My Movies packages.
The "Free of Charge Option"The free of charge option is made available to all non-commercial products, or products based on volunteer donations and is based on the same terms that usage of My Movies is today. Users gain points by either contributing or donating to the My Movies project - these points then gives users access to additional features, or extends default enabled features - as always no features limiting the basic usage will require points. Using this option, My Movies pays for all traffic costs and maintenance costs the users gives, but at the same time benefits from the users contributions to our service.
The "Commercial Option"The commercial option provides companies with commercial products the option to supply the My Movies back-end products as a company branded option, where users are not restricted by any limitations on contribution or donation points, and where the companies instead pay a small fee for each title the user adds to their colllection.
Anyone interested in either of the two options may contact us at
support@mymovies.dk for more details.
