"Connect to My Movies Server" cannot connect to my server Options · View

My My Movies app on my Galaxy 9 Note synchronizes fine with my server.

Still, when trying Settings -> Connect to My Movies Server I get the error "No connection could be made. Make sure that the server is running".

If I enter the servername or the ip-address as the local server I get the error message immediately (as if the connection has not even been tested). If I enter the name or ip-address with "\\" or "//" in front I get the error after the connection has been tried for a few seconds.

I have forwarded ports 51408-51414 on my router and even turned off all firewalls.

What am I doing wrong?

I am.

Well, the server is a HP Proliant with Windows 10. It is connected to my router via cable, while my phone is using a UniFi wifi AP that is also connected to the same router.

My phone is 192.168.1.110 while the server is 192.168.1.124.
The router does not have wifi. It's an Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4.

... also, remember that the My Movies app synchronizes just fine with the server (through wifi). It is only the "Settings -> Connect to My Movies Server" part that is not working.

Note when the phone syncs it is not synching with 'your' server, its syncing with the My Movies server over the internet, which your PC also does to sync your collection with the My Movies server. So there is not a direct connection between your phone and PC in order to sync, it is going via the My Movies server over the internet.

Thanks for clearing that out, but my initial problem is that I cannot connect to: "Settings -> Connect to My Movies Server". What can I do about this?

The problem typically is on your server with a firewall.

But overall, there can be different issues:

a) You are using something else than Windows Firewall on your machine, or have a security software that blocks incoming connections and acts either directly or indirectly as a firewall. The ports which My Movies adds to be open is in the range 51408-51419.

b) Your network is configured so that you have two networks, typically by having a router in between. This can be checked by determining your IP address, which must be in the same IP range.

Initially, what I would test would be:

1) Check Windows Firewall for the listings.

2) Try to telnet on the local server to 51415, if it works proceed.

3) Try to telnet on another machine to the server on port 51415 to check if the port is open.

It seems that I can telnet the server on port 51415 from another client on the network. I'm no telnet expert but I get a black screen when launching the command "telnet [my server] 51415" while I get "Connecting to [my server]..." (with no connection) when using another port, such as 11111.

Still, when trying "Settings -> Connect to My Movies Server" I get the message "No connection could be made. Make sure that the server is running".

My Movies is running on a Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
