Hi, I can't complete the initial database sync when I start my collection manager for the first time after upgrade from 5.13 to 5.25.

I have windows 7 with SP1 that I have been using with 5.13 MyMovies for a couple of years now. Is there something specific i need to do to complete the initial database synchronisation?

System description:
Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit OS, .NET Framework v4.6.1, no security software active, updates installed.

Steps to reproduce.
Start Collection Manager, Choose Synchronization Method window pops up automatically. I follow wizard to synchronise by using my local library to overwrite online library. I get all the way to Synchronization Progress: Loading Movie Watched Data 610 of 1305...
Then, the process quits and I get a new window that says: There was a problem storing data into the internal database -synchronization aborted (click OK, window closes)
THe Synchronization Progress window says: The synchronization failed due to an internal database error. Press "Next" to try again. (I close the window)
New Window pops up
The synchronization method change is required. You can start the guide later by opening the Collection Manager or Dashboard application.
Collection Manger quits.

Attached are two logs. The log.txt is previous session. THe log.zip is a bigger loq which is specifically after the failure today.




Please assist.

Thanks for your help. I have updated my original post with more details on my system, steps to reproduce and 2 log files.
I appreciate your help.


Looking at the log.zip, i find a database error, something about a duplicate key. Retries 3 times and gives up. Should I delete MYMOVIES instance of SQL and re-build a new one? Is there a database issue that needs to be updated or installed? As I said in my original post, i have SQL 2008 in Windows 7 Pro, SP1.

I am coming to a conclusion that I have some type of problem in "MYMovies" database. How do you fix this type of database error? Do you restore an older backup? Do you completely uninstall MyMovies, delete the SQL database and then re-install MyMovies? After that, restore my backup?

Can you please help with this?

How can I get support on my issue?

I have posted full description per directions on "good report", attached a log file. Gave my own analysis of the log file.
I have also emailed support@mymovies.dk

I am not getting support. Why not?

I am sorry that it have taken a few days to look at this.

You had a title which had the same category assigned twice - please try to sync now to see if this was the only title affected by this.

Hi Brian,

I tried a couple of times but the result is same. The error happens at different tittle now. Here are two logs, one from yesterday and one from today.


Also, I only care to retain my local database. If I have to over write my online database and/or get rid of categories all together, I am OK with that. Thanks for your help.

Hello Brian, thanks very much. THe online database sync has worked. The initial synchronisation has completed and I can access my library via library management app, dashboard and DLNA client. However, the Media Center fails to load the library. When I start Media Center, I can see my library name on the Media Center Menu. However, when I click on the movies library, I get an error window pop up which says:
Invalid Application
Unable to launch "My Movies Start Menu Strip 1"

Attached is a screen shot of that error and another log.txt

Please let me konw what i should do. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled 5.25 setup. Result is same.

the result is same regardless of how I start Media Center, MyMovies background service is not running or not detected by Media Center


Are there dependencies in 5.25 which are new as compared to 5.13? Again, the reason I ask is that version 5.13 ran fine in my Media Center and I have not made any updates since then to Windows. So, perhaps 5.25 is expecting some newer library that I do not have installed?

Another test point.
On another client PC, Windows 7 Pro, I am still running version 5.13 and I am able to use Media Center successfully, accessing the 5.25 server and playing movies from it. So, the issue seems to be with the executables on my server for Media Center. Again, I have not changed anything on server Media Center since it was successfully running 5.13. Something is not correctly installed from 5.25 installation in MediaCenter.

I looked in Windows Event Viewer, specifically at Media Center events.
Up until October 9th, there were no errors, just messages about MCUpdate task being successful. Starting on October 9th, I see the Exception which I am posting below. This is the date on which i did the upgrade from 5.13 to 5.25 (as you can see by my first post of this thread). Again, my Windows updates are disabled. Nothing has been updated since before the 9th, when 5.13 was running in Media Center. I have no virus programs, Windows Defender is disabled. Here is the message in Event Viewer regarding the "Invalid Application" error.

Exception Microsoft.MediaCenter.Hosting.Infrastructure.AddInTimedOutException: Unable to initialize add-in MyMovies.MyAddIn, MyMovies, Culture=Neutral, Version=5.2.5.100, PublicKeyToken=a1ebcdab681cfc9d

How can I check the installation of MyMovies add in for Media Center? What do I need to check.

Let me provide a summary of my results.
I did a full uninstall, did some C: drive cleanup (delete of old temp files, old windows update files, etc.)
Rebooted and started Media Center. Confirmed that MyMovies was not present in Media Center menu. Confirmed that my ArcSoft Media Center was still there and operating correctly.
Did a clean install (Server & Client). It did not ask me to restart. So, I stated Media Center and say MyMovies in the Media Center Menu. I tried to launch the movie strip menu, got same bad result.
Invalid Application
Unable to launch "My Movies Start Menu Strip 1"
I quit Media Center and clicked on MyMovies task bar icon, and selected My Movies there. Amazingly this worked. Media Center launched directly in MyMovies strip menu and I was able to navigate and play movies inside Media Center.
I then went back to Media Center main menu and launched MyMovies strip from there. It worked (by magic).

So, at this point, I am hopeful that Media Center background service is working. I will try for the next couple of days. I am concerned how this works after I shut down or hibernate the PC. If all works as before, I will come back here and thank you. Otherwise, I will post my issues. Thank you again.

Well, I am back because its not working yet.
The problem is that services are not working after I hibernate the computer or restart. Here is the full scenario.

Media Center was fully functional, task bar icon is available, I can run dashboard and collection manager as well as operate mymovies library from within Media Center.
I quit media center and restart the computer.
Once I login, I see no task bar icon. I am not able to start the dashboard or collection managers (nothing happens) and when I start Media Center, I get the usual "Invalid Application" when I select MyMovies.
Then, I quite Media Center.
Start Task Manager, I see 3 MyMovies services running: General, iTunes and Task bar.
I kill all three services.
Quit task manager.
Start the v5.25 setup app and select repair. The repair complete successfully.
Subsequently, everything works.

I have repeated this cycle multiple times. So, I need to understand what happens to MyMovies setup or services when I restart the computer.
Can you please suggest how I can trouble shoot this and find a fix?

Sorry forgot to attach log. Here are two logs that were generated after I un-hibernated the computer. As usual, MyMovies task bar icon was not present and Media Center MyMovies menu item resulted in "Invalid Application"
