Since version 4.x no longer works, I'm trying to install 5.25, but am getting an SQL error. I uninstalled the old version and manually uninstalled all instances of SQL, so I'm doing a fresh install on a Windows 7 machine.

I've seen this error reported before and one solution was to install 5.24 first, then upgrade to 5.25. Where can I find v 5.24?

When the app prompts to install with an interface, confirm that - then you typically get a better message - this is why it prompts for that:

2020-10-14 22:16:32 . 82 - InstallSQLServer - Microsoft SQL Server could not be installed. The installation returned errorcode '-2067529676'. Asking user to install with an interface.
2020-10-14 22:16:41 . 75 - InstallSQLServer - The user declined to install with an interface. Ending with error code -4

I tried it both ways so you would have both entries in the log. First I accepted with an interface, then I tried again and declined. Here's what the log says when I accept the interface.

2067529676'. Asking user to install with an interface.
2020-10-14 22:04:42 . 15 - InstallSQLServer - User confirmed to install with an interface.
2020-10-14 22:04:59 . 26 - InstallSQLServer - Microsoft SQL Server could still not be installed. The installation returned errorcode '-2067529676'. Ending with error code -4.

I would try another uninstall. Once finished do a reboot, try to uninstall again, if you can reboot, and install new version.

The key is to reboot after uninstall, I believe.

There's nothing to uninstall. I ran the My Movies Clean Tool, and it runs successfully. There's nothing to uninstall in control panel, no SQL, no My Movies. I even searched the registry for "My Movies", but found nothing.

So this go-around, I ran the Clean Tool and verified that the My Movies folder had been deleted from the Program Data folder, it was. Then I re-booted the computer. I tried another install of 5.25 and it failed again at the SQL install.

I was able to install 5.25 on my other computer.

Same situation, uninstalled 4 and SQL. Ran the Clean Tool. 5.25 installed just fine. They're identical computers, so I'll re-install Windows 7 on the first computer and try again.

you could have tried using your command prompt in admin mode an issued

sfc /scannow

that usually helps rid latent files

sfc /scannow seems to have done the trick! I had not re-installed Windows yet, so thank you for your help!

sfc /scannow did not find anything wrong, but I was able to install My Movies 5.25 after the scan.
