The listing of titles for All Titles and in Alphabetical do not sort by SortName. They sort by name so all the "The..." are together. The Alphabetical list by letter does get them within the correct letter/Number but within the Letter, they are still sorted with all "The..." together. I got in c\and taught myself how to use templates etc a few years ago to customize but I didn't retain it very well.

What needs to be included in the Template so that generated meta data folder.dat files will have the correct entries to sort titles by their SortTitle?

You cannot on the Dune as this is not a programming interface but a list of folders with some nicer icons and backgrounds - it is still just able to list folders as the device orders them...

@binnerup

Brian,

You could make it work.

First, all the folders would be named with Sort name (Personal Sort if there is one, and Sort if there isn't).

Second, turn off captions (dune_folder.txt "paint_captions = no").

Third, make the icons taller to include title text.

Fourth, render the Title text (Personal Title if there is one, or Local Title if there isn't) into the folder icon at the newly expanded bottom of the icon. Notice that this allows you to display accents, colon, all those things that Windows or Linux would not permit in a folder name.

Of course, this change would require re-generating all the meta data for the collection, but that wouldn't be so bad, would it? Afterward, everything sorts on the Dune screen exactly as it does in My Movies Collection Management and the smartphone apps.

Would you mind telling us why you don't want to name the folders after a sort title?

Yes - certainly...

Overall, the software does not change the users folder structure, and history means that we won't do that because of issues where users pointed a single title to root folders, requesting to delete a folder and then deleting a full set of titles - so, out of policity, we do not change existing folders.

And, all other ways of viewing folder content is based on the actual name of the folders, and not a text based structure as the Dune, so it would not be ideal for everything else - we believe that users folder structure and content in them should be universal, and not tied to the specifics of one device.

Brian, I'm not sure I understand your response. We're talking about the folder and file structure of the DUNE metadata, are we not?

The DUNE metadata files and folder are created programmatically by My Movies. Those folder/file names and structure are unrelated to how the user stores media files, and unrelated to the My Movies database storage.

In that case, I am baffled why it makes any difference what names My Movies gives to those metadata folders and files. You could give those folders any names you wanted if you turned off the paint_captions option and have the Dune user interface show just the cover art -- for most users that would be good enough since the disc title is on the cover.

I must be missing something in our discussion here. Do you have time to clarify?

The OP and I are both talking about browsing the Dune Metadata Index using a Dune hardware player.
