I have a fresh install of MCE 2005 on a virtual machine and after a bit of searching for old install files for required software I was able to get MM v2.59 installed. My problem is when I try to log into MM, I get the error "The WebService did not respond. Check your internet connection, or try again later.". I have the virtual network setup correctly and can get online as well as download files with chrome, firefox and IE8 (fixed the TLS 1.2 issue in IE8 but still getting SSL certificate errors in IE8 only). Is it the SSL Certificate that's the problem or has the address for the WebService changed? If so, where can I change it to the new address? If it's the certificate in IE8 that's causing it, is there a way around that? I've tried installing the mymovies.dk certificate from IE8 but that didn't fix it.

Yes, I know MCE 2005 is outdated and has numerous security vulnerabilities but once I get everything working it won't have internet access much anyway so that is moot.

I was able to get it to let me log in. Basically, it has to do with the certificates and no matter if you use IE, Chrome or FireFox as your default browser it will still try to use the IE settings to connect and adding the certificate doesn't fix it. I found the below link and once I installed them in the order listed I was able to browse mymovies.dk without certifcate errors and was able to log in and connect to the webservice. (the 2nd step would error out on me but I checked the registry and it was already in there so it may only error if readding it)

Once logged in, I was able to do a "By Title" search which worked no problem but when I attempted to download, it would error out and the preview will seemingly try forever without an error but show nothing. So that is currently not possible.

I'm still on My Movies 4.07 myself. It no longer supports the web service. That being said, I just create titles from scratch. Takes just a minute or two. Well, the primary application I use to catalog my DVD's and Blu-ray's is DVD Profiler. Once creating a given profile in DVD Profiler I'm just copying and pasting all the data and cover art over to My Movies which I strictly use for the My Movies for Windows Media Center component. If My Movies were the primary way I was cataloging my collection I'd be more inclined to upgrade I guess. For my purposes, My Movies 4.07 fits the bill perfectly. To each his own naturally.

Well, I think I figured it out.

For starters. I use the most recent version of MM on my server as well as the most recent collection management on my laptop and desktop. I do a 100% DVD backup with CloneDVD2 and then use Handbrake to create an MP4 file which resides in the movie folder with the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. Then I use MM to download ALL the metadata into the same folder and I have it set to write the meta data into the MP4 file. So everything I could possibly need (for the movies) is stored on the server.

Now to what I am working one. I was able to get the certificate problem in XP fixed and logged into MM 2.59 but of course I wasn't able to connect to the server or restore from a backup created by the server. So in order to get 2.59 to work, all I had to do was use the "import" option in MM and direct it to the shared folder on the server where the movie files are located. It is now populating all my movies in MM 2.59. For anyone also doing this, I recommend to do a complete sync with the webservice on the current Collection Management or else it will stop on anything movie has more information on your end than online and make you choose wether to contribute. I also have the option of folder monitoring enabled as well so hopefully it will automatically add new movies after I get the meta data downloaded from the current CM.

Now the plan (still working out the details) is to use a raspberry pi (or something similar) to boot up a stripped down linux and automatically open virtualbox then automatically boot XP MCE. This way I "should" be able to power the PI from the TV USB just like a Roku stick but have full access to the DVDs like back in the good ol days. Yes, I could hook up a modern computer but then I would have to power it from the wall instead of from the USB. I am currently using plex server (which works fine) but I wanted to see if doing this was possible (I guess I got bored). If it works out the way I think it will then I will probably create a virtual on the server to run MM 2.59 server on it so I can just use the PI sticks as MM clients. I have no idea when I will have this done or even if it will work but I will update as I work on it.

Also, I am using XP because it is less of a resource hog than any of the newer MS OSes so it should work the best in this setup and as for the security vulnerabilies I will block the XP system from the internet via the rouer.

WMC sees that I am using virtualbox and now wont let me play the movies and shows the error "cannot display video from a terminal service session". I guess now I need to find how it knows and how to change that.
