When I opened a Disc Title and then opened up the Assign Disc dialogue, the data I pulled from the Web Service doesn't match the Disc ID pulled from the copy I have, even though the barcode does match.

I'm hoping for clarification on how best to resolve the mismatch.

In the Assign Disc dialog box, when to works out the Disc ID doesn't match I get the following pop up:

Which implies I shouldn't just update the ID to match the current disc I have.

When I open the Report Invalid Data box, I get the below message:

Which implies I should update the data and just recontribute it?

Note disc IDs are not a unique identifier, they can vary by factory source or production batch for example even for the same barcoded item and even match other completely different titles so having a different disc ID doesn't mean the current one is wrong.

So a different/alternate disc ID is not really incorrect data.

When you have an alternate disc ID you should as the pop says use the report option as moderators have some ways to verify if the existing id is correct and can associate additional IDs to a title for lookup purposes though you won't see it on the title data.

Just to clarify, I should report the option using the "Report Incorrect Data" option?

Before doing that, do I pick up the new Disc ID values in the Discs section of the Title. The contribute the new Title data with new Disc IDs, then in the "Report Incorrect Data" box, I just mention the Disc ID values I just contributed are new ones?

Sorry for my confusion, I just want to make sure I'm doing the steps correctly and not making it difficult for the moderators.

You leave the existing disc id(s) on the profile alone.

You do not contribute alternate ids at all, you make a report and give the alternate Id you have in the report so that a mod can check and associate it as an alternate, or potentially the mod might replace the existing if they can verify it as incorrect. Users won't see the alternate ids on a profile anywhere even when its added.

Generally speaking the only time a user should replace a disc id on a title is when it is required to create a full box set, as the system will require a consistent set of ids across the parent and child titles, so if only the parent currently exists the and a user has different disc ids the only way they can contribute is by changing them all to match theirs.

I should probably add that changing a disc id on a title would also be acceptable in the circumstance that it is necessary in order to add additional data such as a disc strcuture. E.g. you want to add a disc structure but a previous user added just an id. As you can only read the structure from the disc you have you would have to change the id in order to add the structure so that would be acceptable.
