Hello,
I downloaded MyMovies Collection Management version 5.43 a few days ago because it fixed the IMDb import problem. It worked perfectly until yesterday (January 21st) – but since today, the IMDb import has suddenly stopped working.
What could be the cause?

IMDB have made a block of reading, which means that this functionality is not going to return. The site returns empty on requests when reading as an older browser, and if reading on a later, there is now a block against reading programatically. The functionality will this time not be coming back, unfortunately. For physical media, it is recommended to use the "Inherit Cast & Crew" option, so that cast and crew only is maintained once per movie. The DVD Profiler community have a tool "TmdbInfo" which lets you read from TheMovieDB - the output of this tool can be used also with the paste feature in the Collection Management app. We will with a next Pre Release provide an update so that the paste function in the app supports pasting full HTML source code from IMDBs "full credits" page for a title.

I’ve installed *a* TmdbInfo tool for Windows, and while says it allows you to copy, that functionality does not seem to be present. Could you link to the tool you are referring to? I want make sure I’m looking at the right thing. I always use “Inherit Cast and Crew” for Titles, but that depends on the pre-existence of a fully populated Movie record. I’m currently stuck until I can copy/paste the information to create those when needed. Any estimate of the timeline for the Prerelease of the new functionality? Thanks.

I did eventually find the "Copy Cast" function (right click), but you may want to advise against using this tool to cut and paste.
It introduces extra spaces between the first and last names, and thus creates redundant entries into the "Cast and Crew" data in the MyMovies database when you paste. For example, pasting the cast for "Die Privatsekretärin" (IMDB-ID tt0022280), you end up with "Renate Müller" (extra space between first and last) in the database as well as the already existing "Renate Müller", etc. etc. etc. for every cast and crew member. In other words, you end up making a massive mess of the database by using this tool, if the paste operation doesn't do any pre-processing of the text strings to remove extraneous spaces. (Any preprocessing really should at least *always* strip off leading and trailing spaces. This is already a problem in the database.)

Could you please address the problem, outlined in my earlier replies, about the paste from TMDBinfo introducing leading space characters and polluting the Cast&Crew database with erroneous names because these leading space characters are not stripped out? Without this being fixed, I will need to avoid including any Cast information at all in any of the new Titles I provide to the service. I am willing to populate Crew data manually, but not Cast. That is just too time-consuming. Can we get some sort of commitment that this will be fixed ASAP? Thanks.

I’ve currently got ten Title records created and ready to go, except they lack any Cast info because of the “untrimmed leading spaces” problem with the workaround paste from TMDBinfo. The rest of the regular MyMovies database maintenance that I do is on hold until there is some sort of working path forward. Any chance of inserting some sort of “data scrubbing” to remove leading space characters in the paste operation ASAP? Could you confirm that getting some sort of viable “cut and paste” of Cast information is an urgent priority, since the current workaround corrupts the data? Thanks!

We are going to take a look at this. There is another workaround available - go to the "full credits" page on IMDB, and "View source" in the browser - copy the content, and paste it on the paste button in the app. Note! Always use the "Inherit Cast & Crew" option so that cast and crew is only to be entered on the main movie profile once.

Question: I'm on the "Full Credits" page, viewing source (view-source:https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084097/fullcredits/), and if I copy the content, nothing happens when I paste it. Are there specific sections of the code I am supposed to copy in order to paste, or the whole thing? (Note: This example I am pasting in the Title record, since it is a feature-length episode of a BBC television episode. So, it might not be the best exemplar.) UPDATE: I've also tried to paste the Cast & Crew (Full Credits) source code into into a Movie record, and it also does not produce any results. As my standard practice, I “Inherit Cast & Crew” from the Movie record for all my “Title” records. However, I have a number of collections of feature-length films that were broadcast on BBC as a part of their various weekly series (“The Wednesday Play”, “Play for Today”, “BBC2 Playhouse”, etc.). Each episode is a stand-alone and has a different cast, writer, director, etc. My “Title” records correctly list these as episodes in a “TV Series”, but the “Cast & Crew” cannot be inherited from a subordinate record, since a “Movie” record is not permitted in these cases. In these cases, I include the “Cast & Crew” at the Title level instead. See for example, “Daniel Day-Lewis Triple Feature” (barcode 883929324972). I have another box of BBC dramas I have built (“Ken Loach at the BBC”, barcode 5051561033957) that has ten features that are lacking cast information. I have added “Crew” information by hand, but wish to import the “Cast” information for the films, since in many cases the Cast is extensive. Could you instruct the support team to populate the “Cast” of these at the “Title” level when requested? Thanks.
