I have noticed in the backdrops available that the TV series The West Wing has only one entry for the entire 7 season run of the show. I would like to see different backdrops for each season instead of the same one for all 7 seasons. Is there any way this can be accomplished locally or is it controlled by what’s available on the WebService? Why doesn’t each season have a separate entry on the WebService?
I suffer from CDO. It's like OCD except it's in alphabetical order like it should be.

Because right now, we are using IMDB IDs as the basis for our Backdrop Titles - so since The West Wing only has one entry for it in IMDB (covering the entire series) so do we. I'm not sure if this will ever change or not. It cannot really be accomplished locally, either..only if IMDB ID had a separate ID for each season. New to My Movies and confused? Why we are not allowed to put any text in the Backdrop? I do think that a little text could be approved. Such as this one, for Battle Royale : http://www.moviewallpapers.net/images/wallpapers/2000/battle-royale/battle-royale-2-1600.jpgI love this backdrop, i resized it and add it to the backdrop put it as been deleted. I found this image much more accurate than the others for the movies without text. Is it possible to add it for my use only if it is not allowed on the website? Thanks for all you help and services to this really great programme :)

Thanks for all you help and services to this really great programme :) Well, in most instances it's not allowed because it interfers with text on screen, and generally looks bad. Some text IS allowed and it could be argued that this backdrop you provided a link to could be allowed - since it plays such a prominent role in the movie. I'm not entirely sure. Arguments could go either way on this one. I think in the end, it's too much text for an alloweable backdrop. As much as I love the movie (and I do!) it would probably be deleted... I personally like it very much. I think if someone viewed the movie, they might understand the backdrop a little better, don't you? But I imagine not too many people have seen the movie hee hee. So basically, it's a visual-thing that prohibits text in most instances. Currently the only manner in which to get backdrops is to use the Webservice ones - so you cannot use ones not approved for the Webservice. :( I hope that helps with some of your issues. I can't do much about the last one - it's beyond my control. I guess we should be thankful it's even in IMDB - otherwise it couldn't ever have a backdrop! :( New to My Movies and confused? Text is only allowed in very rare situations where the text makes an artwork - this is described in the contribution rules. We do not allow text because a backdrop is not for displaying titles, and if we allowed it, it would be on 20% of all titles. It is not allowed, and it will not be allowed. A backdrop with a logo is not considered an artwork. Having trouble installing or upgrading to My Movies 5? Click here for troubleshooting.Having a problem? Thansk for you answers :) I understand much better now.
Actually, i found a way to get my own "artwork" by naming my backdrop "fanart.jpg" and with a right-click i put the settings "read only", so, the backdrop will not be change with the automatic refreshing. Everyone is happy this way :) Thansk again for all yout help

Unable to upload backgrounds for titles. Error message states:
You have more than twice the amount of uploaded Screen Captures as you have Art Work. This often indicates users trying to gain points by uploading content that does not benefit the service, and is therefore not allowed. Notice that contributing incorrectly contributing a Screen Capture as Art Work to bypass this limitation will lead to closure of your account.

So what you're saying is I must boost my "Art vs. Screen Cap" ratio in order to contribute any more screen cap backdrops? Ever? Is this ratio enforcement documented anywhere?

Yes, this is correct. It is not documented anywhere, no. The limitation was created because there was a set of users who contributions a lot of screencaps to titles that already had good artwork, all for the single benefit of gaining points, where the only thing this did was limit the option for others to upload good artwork. Because of that, different limitations of screencaps were created, and this was one of them. Having trouble installing or upgrading to My Movies 5? Click here for troubleshooting.Having a problem? Is there anyway to have a Holding title for a Box Set to get backgrounds even if I have to edit a xml file.
Using WHS version.
Where are the xml files for holding titles kept? and can it be edited to use a background - fan art?

I am kinda of confused concerning the rules surrounding backdrops and text. The rules state that "Backdrops may not contain any text, unless the text is an integrated part of the artwork itself." except I find that backdrops are rejected even when the "text" is an integral part of the backdrop. A prime example of that is this: I fail to see how that does not fall into the "integral part" category.

I have a quick question I'd like an answer to... If a movie or tv show is old, and the chances of getting a decent quality backdrop for it is low, are we to completely ignore it or at least try our very best to find something to put there? I only ask because I contributed a backdrop to "The Blackadder", which is very very old and has absolutely no decent promo material out there for it. So I did my best, I found an image, cleaned it up in photoshop, and submitted it only to find a few months after I submitted it that it had been deleted. I don't care about points, I have enough so that is not the issue here, I just thought I was doing the community a good deed by at least trying my best to put something there for everyone. Now however when people add this to their collection they will get nothing. The backdrop is here btw: www.snitchy.co.uk/blackadder1.jpg - Yes, it's rubbish quality and I'll admit that, but its not a "Screen shot" as the one worded deletion "explanation" explained, it was my best effort to try and provide the community with something instead of having nothing. So, do we just not bother in future?

I have also wondered that about posters. For movies that simply do not have a poster because none was ever released/created by the studio, what should be submitted instead?
Its not as big a deal right now, since the posters are not even used in the MyMovies software, but I assume they will be in the future.

snitchy wrote:...only to find a few months after I submitted it that it had been deleted. It wasn't deleted for poor quality. I for one am quite lenient regarding quality for obscure titles. It is indeed difficult to find suitable backdrops for some titles. I know this from first hand experience. Alas, some may never get them. However, in your case, it was deleted because it was uploaded as "art work" when in fact it is a screen shot. Some users try and get around the limit on screen shots by adding them as art but later find out that this behavior will get them on the wrong side of the moderators. What was odd was none of the three or so backdrops I zapped (all set as art) had been loaded as a screen cap. At least one would survive if that had been the case. Load yours back on again but be sure to set it as Screen Cap.

If that was the case then I sincerely apologise, but wouldn't it have been better to just change it from "Art work" to "Screen Cap" instead of deleting it, or is that not possible? I can't comment on the other two you say you deleted because I only have a record of uploading one, but like I said it was months ago so who knows!

I have noticed that the amount of backdrops for some titles like "Shark Tale" for example is very low. I remember there were much more in the past (and without text). What is the reason for that? Thanks TeHaX
