Paul, I sent you 3 tweets with 3 screenshots regarding what a boxset, or multiple disks should look like

Got it, thanks!

Right now, if there are multiple ISOs in a folder, MM Browser allows you to choose which ISO to play, but I am showing ISO file name, not the movie title names you have showing in the 3rd screenshot. That's going to take some work.

Can you send me the mymovies.xml for the Universal Classic Monsters boxset? I see this boxset is also a DVD, so I assume this is a DVD folder in VIDEO_TS directories. I need to see how that looks with multiple VIDEO_TS folders, folder structure and contents and all.

Thanks,
Paul

So I don't have any box sets entered into my system, though I do have a few on the shelf. Guess I need to add some. If these truly are box sets, then the Art Cache issue may not be a problem, since some box sets share cover art of the parent. You should look for these titles in the GUI and see if the artwork is correct or wrong for all titles.

It would also be helpful if you could do the following:

1) Open the MMBrowserDB.xml database file in IE/Edge again.
2) Search for <ColNum>926</ColNum> which should be in the file about 6 times based upon the error log above (CTRL-F opens the search box)
3) For each of those, look at the <SBSPar> and <SBSKid> tags and see if they are True/False (SBSPar = Series Box Set Parent, SBSKid = Series Box Set Child)

sbsPar and SBSKid are false for all. This a dvd title by the way

5) If the titles above were Children, see if the Parent was found in the file by searching for <SBSPar>True</SBSPar>.

Okay, one last question - how 'should' a box set display in the MM Browser GUI? Should it be 1 cover for the parent, or 1 cover for each child?

Thanks,
Paul
[/quote]

This is certainly not what I was expecting, not even close. First, these don't appear to be a box set, since there is no parent or child relationship.

Second, each DVD is in a separate folder, to be expected since they are DVD folders and not ISOs, but the parent folder is your main MyMovies folder. I was anticipating that you would store multiple discs from the same series inside a shared parent folder, like this:

\\DROBO_X\X_Drive\MyMovies\Little House on the Prairie- The Complete Television Series\Season 8\Disk 1
\\DROBO_X\X_Drive\MyMovies\Little House on the Prairie- The Complete Television Series\Season 8\Disk 2
\\DROBO_X\X_Drive\MyMovies\Little House on the Prairie- The Complete Television Series\Season 8\Disk 3
\\DROBO_X\X_Drive\MyMovies\Little House on the Prairie- The Complete Television Series\Season 9\Disk 1
\\DROBO_X\X_Drive\MyMovies\Little House on the Prairie- The Complete Television Series\Season 9\Disk 2
\\DROBO_X\X_Drive\MyMovies\Little House on the Prairie- The Complete Television Series\Season 9\Disk 3

I'll have to think through that one, as I'm not sure it makes a difference one way or another. Well, except that I can't use folder structure to figure out that these are related.

It seems logical that these all share the same Collection Number, though, as they are all part of the same series, just that they are different discs and have separate xml files.

The problem that I'm having is that there's no data that I've captured in the MMBrowserDB.xml file that would allow me to determine that these two entries are part of a larger 55-disc collection. Only the Collection Number indicates that they are part of the same title, but I've found that I can't trust the Collection Number, which is why I report errors when I find duplicates.

Can you send me the mymovies.xml files for both of those? Do these show up as a single title in My Movies Collection Management, or separate titles one per disc?

Thanks,
Paul

Fixed in next release.

[UPDATE] Just released MM Browser 1.2.2017.1107, which fixes the .ISO case sensitivity bug. Please test and report back.

I haven't worked on the multi-disc series faux boxset issue yet, waiting on sample xml files to do further research.

One last tip for an issue I discovered today: On a new installation, when you go to play an ISO, if you have not yet assigned the 'Virtual CloneDrive Drive Letter', you will get an error message, or worse MM Browser will just crash. Please be sure to set this value on the Settings page to the drive letter of your Virtual CloneDrive drive. I'll fix this in the next release.

Thanks,
Paul

MM Browser v1.3 has just been released.

v1.3 includes some very important fixes and added support for My Movies multi-disc Online File and Online Folders.

v1.3 also has preliminary Box Set support, though I do have some significant updates for Box Sets I'm working on for the next version, so consider this a work in progress.

If you tried an earlier version of MM Browser and you were left disappointed, I highly encourage you to try v1.3.

As a reminder, I created a separate thread for MM Browser here: http://www.mymovies.dk/forum.aspx?g=posts&m=210775#210775

I have been testing this software for a week now. I suggest that when starting out that you heed the instructions on the first popup page about how to use the keyboard. Only keyboard and remote control keys are supported. Paul has a good how-to section on his MM_Browser website as well. If you have any questions contact Paul by responding here or via twitter. He is very responsive to questions and will add features that make sense.

I also bought a license and found that the trial only displays 100 titles and doesn't show all the functionality the licensed version displays.

I am very happy with this app and I feel that it is a complete replacement for WMC and I don't think I will use WMC again. This is the app I have been looking for since I upgraded to Windows 10.

When using the remote control with MM_browser, go to the how-to section on the website for the remote control setup. He mentions an application download for updating the key which I did use. The remote control works great with this app and is very useful for a HTPC with a TV.

I think PowerDVD is only supported right now and MM_Browser is a good companion with mymovies and PowerDVD.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to help.

Consider this a PSA of sorts.

The Windows 10 Free upgrade via the Accessibility Page is supposed to end at midnight 12/31/2017 according to Microsoft. I took advantage of that today to upgrade my Media Center PC and to move forward with the combination of MMBrowser and MyMovies. I was going to hold on to Media Center till the bitter end until I found the MMBrowser references here in the forums. Upon further research and testing as ell as some email with the author I found that I could live without Media Center and in Fact feel that MMBrowser offers a better experience. Doubly so because we have the ability to have the product maintained and also enhanced, plus being able to move forward with Windows 10, which is a better product than W7.

I have been struggling with this issue for about 2 years. I took the recommended route of continuing with Windows 7. Unfortunately the new Intel Chips no longer support Windows 7. If you buy a new computer it will most likely not support Windows 7 or 8.

I took the step of moving to Kodi. I did the set up under Windows 8.1. Here are the things I did:

1. Split my movies and TV Shows into different folders/disks
2. I installed the Universal Movie Scraper ( it is an Information Provider add on). It recognises the folder.jpg generated by MyMovies (see Note 1) and uses IMDB as its source.
3. Moved each TV show folder into a folder with the name of the TV Show
4. Went through every TV show disk and added the Season and Episode information for each file, eg. S01E01-02-03-04
5. Added the various folders/disks to the Kodi library and let it scrape the folders (see note 2)
6. Ran a database optimiser in Collection Manager and corrected the locations of disk that I had changed the folder names

Notes
1. The name of the folder for a movie needs to match what is in IMDB. If you have 2 movies with the same name, e.g. Robin Hood, MyMovies uses the WIndows default option,e.g. (1) on the folder name. You need to put the year of release, eg. Robin Hood (2010)
2. This might be quite an iterative process as certain movies/tv shows may not scrape due to file names. You can have two versions of the same TV show, e.g. House of Cards. To distinguish them you can add the country, e.g. House of Cards (US).

The best way to find out what to use is to go to IMDB and search on the movie or TVDB for a TV Show, they will give you the various names they will recognise.

I then bought a Raspberry PI for £64. Loaded it with OpeneLec and Kodi and set it up the same as the version on Windows and ran it. It works fine. I am streaming DVD and BluRay via a Raspberry PI. I will not be buying another Windows computer for this.

By the way all of my movies and TV Shows are copied as ISO. I did look at PowerDvd and it does not handle ISO for TV Shows.

Hope this helps

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work.

MM Browser should be easier to setup, plus TV Series/Episode support is almost done and is moving into Beta this weekend.

Unfortunately, MM Browser is Windows only at the moment, though it will work on Win 7, Win 8.1, and Win 10.

I have been contemplating a Linux release. To do so would require for me to upgrade my programming tools to a newer version ($$$), among other hurdles, though I think it would be nice to have a Windows Media Center style replacement on Linux. My MM Browser code is really lightweight, so it would probably run on a Raspberry Pi just fine if I port it.

Is there interest in a MM Browser Linux edition?

I just read that Microsoft has extended the deadline to January 16, 2018 - so we all have 10 more days to upgrade to Windows 10 for free: https://www.neowin.net/news/psa-free-upgrade-offer-for-windows-10-is-still-available-for-10-more-days

If you are unsure how MM Browser will work for you as a Windows Media Center replacement, you can try it for free and it works on Windows 7 and 8.1 too.

While it already works great, MM Browser is not feature complete... yet. I'm constantly developing MM Browser to add more functionality and support all core features of My Movies. Episode support is almost ready for beta, and is turning out better than I had hoped.

I'm also happy to add features that make sense, so let me know if it doesn't do something you want or need. You can also read the MM Browser Roadmap to see the current development plans.

Happy New Year my fellow My Movies users!

I agree it is a lot of work, but now done it was worth while. I did look at your utility but the lack of TV Shows/seasons/episodes mode it a little unwieldy. From your note I see you are looking into this.

I downloaded MM BRowser yesterday to have another look and it defaults to PowerDVD for movies and TV SHows. My discs are ISOs so how do you get around PowerDVD's lack of support for ISOs?

The reason I went down this route is that my Windows machine had given up the ghost and I needed to replace it. £64 for a Raspberry PI was much more attractive than £300 for a Windows machine. Also, Microsoft/Intel's decision to stop making chips that support Windows 7/8.x doesn't sit well with me.

I hope your product becomes the true replacement for WMC.

Mike

Elaborate Bytes' Virtual CloneDrive (VCD) is free and mounts ISO's (DVD/BR/UHDBR) as if they were a physical disc.

Once you install VCD, all you have to do is tell MM Browser what drive letter you configured as your VCD drive. MM Browser takes care of the rest. Super easy.

99.9% of my collection is ISO, and that is the primary format I developed MM Browser to handle, and it does this really well, though I'm still looking for ways to further improve this capability.

It was a rude awakening when I released MM Browser and had users asking for DVD Folder support (I didn't even know what that was at the time). Luckily adding support for DVD Folders and transcoded files like MP4's/MKV's has been pretty easy. But ISO support has been there since day 1.

After months of development and nearly thirty betas, I have just released MM Browser v1.8. It has some nice new features:

* Preliminary TV Series & Episodes support
* Media Player Classic (MPC-HC & MPC-BE) support
* VideoLAN VLC support
* M4V playback support
* Auto-Adjust Display Refresh Rate
* Cosmetic and functionality improvements
* Over a dozen bug fixes

The TV Series & Episodes work differently in MM Browser than they did in WMC. In MM Browser, they are treated like a Box Set, and you can browse the various discs inside the set that make up the TV Series.

You can directly play episodes, from converted media like MP4's and MKV's, but also from DVD/Blu-ray ISO's and Folders. Those last options take a little bit more setup in My Movies to generate the require meta-data files, but it is actually a lot quicker than converting media.

After playing an episode directly from a Blu-ray Folder, I'll never re-encode again. It was fast and convenient.

Plus, with MM Browser you get to choose between playing individual episodes or playing the whole disc, menu's included.

If you haven't tried it yet, what are you waiting for??? MM Browser v1.8.

Enjoy!
Paul

well I have just spent a few hours reading all this .... I am very excited to now start my update to windows 10 on my HTPC ... I was ready to give up on WMC and MM and completely go to Plex but the thought of converting 300+ movies into something it could transcode was not something I was looking forward to doing. So more storage and new graphics card and Windows 10 ready to install I came here as a last effort to save this great piece of software that I have supported for many years.

Paul thank you for your hard work on MM Browser and filling all the needs for me and a lot of other users.

I have 3 quick questions .... After getting W10 all setup and updates applied the plan is to install MM and import my DB Backup. I know over the years with my Phone upgrades I had to pay for MM a few times as it only remembered my purchase one time. Will I have to buy MM again for Windows 10?
I will buy MM Browser and install it, should that install be done before or after MM is installed and all set ready to go?
I am using MPC-HC for my player and I see now that it will work with the latest update of MM Browser, so I do not need to convert all my Video-ts folders?

Thanks again and I look forward to an easy solution in the next few days.

Hi eagleextreme.

First, I want to point out that MM Browser works on Windows 7/8 in addition to Windows 10. If you haven't already, I encourage you to give it a try before you upgrade, so you know exactly how it will work for you.

I'm sure it will meet your needs, but I don't want you to have regrets, so test first if you can.

Second, I don't work for Binnerup, so I can't speak to their licensing model. I'm under the impression that your points are tied to your login, so they follow your login to the new build, but I could be wrong.

Third, MM Browser is free to try and use, the only limitation is it will only show the first 101 titles. So I recommend waiting to purchase until you try it.

The most important thing to do in preparing for MM Browser is to update the metadata files for all your titles. Please read the How-To section on the MM Browser website for help in doing this. MM Browser reads all those mymovies.xml files that are in your media folders, and they need to be up to date. Unfortunately, My Movies sometimes needs you to force it to make the updates.

Installation order doesn't really matter anymore, though typically MM is installed first before MMB. I would like to point out that you don't need MM installed on every PC, only on one to maintain your collection, and MMB can run directly on your collection folders without MM.

You're good to go with your video_ts folders. MM Browser works with DVD/Blu-ray ISO's/Folders and converted media in MP4,MkV, M4V, and WMV. I'm also happy to add support for other formats if needed.

Good luck, and feel free to use the MMB forums for dedicated MMB support.

Paul

Would you guys consider doing a Roku app that would allow us to stream from MMbrowser to a Roku.
People like Cyberlink Power DVD have done that, and it offers a great alternative to streaming the PC content to the TV.

Hope you consider it, the Roku platform is getting a lot of traction with all the Cord cutters :)

MMBrowser is a windows app for streaming videos to powerdvd, mpc-be, mpc-hc, vlc on a windows machine. A Roku app would be a totally new program. Maybe Binnerup consulting would take this on. I might be interested. Binnerup did an apple tv app that I thought was promising, but it never caught on and it seems that development for it was abandoned. I could be wrong. Like I said it was promising and need more polishing.

MMBrowser looks like a promising replacement for the old Windows Media Server. Any chance we can see the My Movies iOS app be able to remote control the MMBrowser?

background info: I was never a big fan of the WMC interface. But when the My Movies app came out on iPad, it was perfect for my entertainment system. Being able to use my iPad to browse my movie collection and then being able to press play and have the iPad send the info to Windows Media Server to play on the big screen.

Potentially, the MMBrowser app could create an API that lets it act as if it was a My Movies for WMC remote - we would gladly hand out the details of this.

However, I do believe that since MMBrowser operates on the XML files and not the My Movies API, that it would not be directly possible for all situations, because of the ids passed.
