First off, THANK YOU for improving the search on my own collection for dependent Movie records in a box-set (such as the Akermann set below). And THANK YOU again for fixing search of Friends Collection for child Title records in box-sets. Wanted to add that child Movie records are not only not found during search of Friends Collection, but they are not even displayable if you click through into the parent Title details. Details below (copied from V5 thread). deprongmori wrote:binnerup wrote:There is not currently - I will mark this down as something to take a look at.
Pretty hung up at the moment on the My Movies 6 release on iOS for December, but hope things are clearing up.
Lacking available hours :-) In the current v6 iOS client, the search in “Friends’ Collection” view now returns child Title records in box sets that match the search criteria. I haven’t yet tested whether matching child “Movie” records are returned. Hmmm. Not only are child Movie records not found on a Friends Collection in a search, they are not even displayed/clickable from the displayed box set itself (unlike the one in my own collection). It doesn’t matter whether the parent box-set Title is returned during a search of Friends Collection, or found through a scroll of the Friends Collection. An example is the “Chantal Akermann: Volume 1” box set, populated with child Movies rather than child disc Titles, barcode 5035673015308.

This is a limitation of how this was implemented.
If you see differences between version 5 and 6 in this relation, please let us know. With the V5 client, my friend could not find “Mystery Street” in my “WB Film Noir Classic Collection Vol. 4” (barcode 085391150206) and still cannot. I had him add the same boxset to his collection and synch, and I can find it in his using the v 6 client. So, there does seem to be a difference.

I deleted my copy of the Noir box, re-synched, re-added, and re-synched. Now, my friend was able to find the child Title records for this set in a Friends Collection search, which he wasn’t before. My database has 7,669 records. His has 1,534. Is there something happening with timeouts or buffer overload when he searches my database?

Yes, there is a difference in your own collection - movies that are not actual child titles, but are attached as movies to a title, which is what can be referred to as a simple box set if you want, those movies have not been part of the search results in the local collection. That part have changed, and these are now part of the search. But all changes are in relation to the local collection, and not the friends feature. Is there something happening with timeouts or buffer overload when he searches my database? It depends on how the titles are added - there are two options - complete disc title profiles as child titles is a complete box set - the alternative is a "simple" marking of which movies a title contains - that title does not hold child titles as such. Then there could be the issue of having a box set parent title where your collection does not contain the child titles - there is an import for that in box set settings, and, the app also checks every once in a while, but then you would also not see the child titles in your collection. So, any change there is have been in the local collection and search of connected movies, but no changes in the friends section. To be honest, I cannot remember the exact limitations of the friends function - we have not touched it for a long time, but there were no changes in this from 5 to 6. To be honest, I cannot remember the exact limitations of the friends function - we have not touched it for a long time, but there were no changes in this from 5 to 6. In this case, I am discussing box-sets where the child records are fully populated with fully populated child disc Title records, and not the simplified form with dependent Movie records only. I have mostly been avoiding talking about “simplified box sets” as those have historically not performed well with full functionality of proper box sets. Re: searching “Friends Collections”, I would hope/expect that a search for a “Title” there would consistently produce the same results as a search directly on that person’s collection. (IOW, sets such as the Film Noir Vol 4 set referenced above.) So, top-line Title records (including parent box set titles), top-line digital Movies, dependent/child disc Titles in properly formed full box sets should consistently be found and returned.) Dependent/child Movie records of “simplfied box sets” have always been wonky in their operation, and while I would love it if they worked properly in the context of a Friends Collection search, it barely works in a search in my own collection, so I am leaving that expectation aside for the time being.
