Disc Title Contribution Guide

Thank you for considering contributing data to our online service. This page covers contribution of DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra and legacy HD DVD titles, commonly referred to as disc titles. Since we believe in quality over quantity, it is important that all data contributed to the service follows this contribution guide. We ask that you read this guide closely before starting to contribute data. Notice that if you locate any data on our service that does not follow this guide, you can also gain points by reporting the issue to our moderators. Please see the bottom of this page for details.

If you have any questions regarding data contributions, and how to ensure that you are contributing data correctly, please use the Data Contribution area of our forums to seek support. Our moderators will gladly help you. Should you contribute incorrect data to the service, you will likely receive a warning from our moderators, and if these warnings are ignored, it can lead to your account being temporary closed until we have ensured that you will follow the contribution guide when contributing. Because of this, it is important that you use an account with an e-mail address that you check frequently.

Before You Start



  1. Verify the barcode and country of the disc. Do not contribute descriptions, discs, covers, etc. from any other release than the specific one matching the barcode and country.
  2. Only DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and legacy HD DVD titles can be submitted. Do not contribute LaserDisc, VHS, VCD, UMD or other formats (these formats use the generic movie profile option).
  3. The database is for official releases only. Do not contribute bootlegs, home videos or similar. Use the Personal Title option for such things.
  4. Please check the database to ensure the title does not exist before creating a new title. We will not delete an existing record except in specific circumstances — failure to edit an existing record is not one of them.

A Box Set is any officially released title containing multiple films. Box Sets will be handled using the same rules as found below, but with specific differences that only apply to box sets. Any special rule or clarification will be noted as in the example below, but expanded documentation can be found here.

Release Details

Country

Country specifies the origin country of the DVD release, which means the country the title was released for. Generally, you can expect the country you purchased the title in to be the country of origin, but in some situations titles are imported from other countries – in this case the country must specified as the country where the title was imported from. The Country is required information before contributing a title to the online service.

Notice!: Once the title has been contributed the first time, only a moderator may change the Country. If there is reason for the Country to be changed, please use the Report Incorrect Data function.

Barcode

Barcode specifies the exact barcode of the DVD as found on the back cover of the DVD. The barcode is a unique identifier and is rarely used on more than one title within the same country. The Barcode is required information before contributing a title to the online service.

Notice!: Once the title has been contributed the first time, only a moderator may change the Barcode. If there is reason for the Barcode to be changed, please use the Report Incorrect Data function.

Titles Without Barcodes

In rare situations, a title is released without a barcode, in these situations or in situations where a box set contains individually packed movies where the covers does not contain a barcode, the default barcode "000000000000" may be used. For a title contributed with this barcode to be accepted and added to the database, it is required to contribute both a front and a back cover, for a moderator to confirm that the title follows correct usage of the special barcode. Notice that contribution points are not given for titles using the "000000000000" barcode, except for when these are box set child titles. For more information on these types of titles and how they specifically apply to Box Sets please see the Box Set section of the Wiki.

Multiple Titles With Same Barcode

It is possible that a barcode is used more than once per country. However, variations of cover art or a re-release of the same title does not automatically justify inclusion in the database as a separate item. In the case of duplicate barcode, notice that you cannot create such titles on your own. Please notify a moderator and provide sufficient evidence including cover art. Once a moderator has initially created the new record, the title record may be edited by anyone.

Type

Type specifies the type of the media, “DVD”, “Blu-ray”, "4K Ultra HD" and legacy "HD DVD" The Type information does not refer to the type of the actual video on your hard drive. In later software versions, multiple types can be selected, in which case the software itself will define the primary type, such as Blu-ray over DVD, 4K Ultra HD over Blu-ray and similar. If adding titles from earlier versions and a title contains multiple disc types, the disc identified as the primary format on the box determines the Type. Notice that the contribution guide will refer to all of these as DVDs. The Type is required information before contributing a title to the online service.

Notice!: Once the title has been contributed the first time, only a moderator may change the Type. If there is reason for the Type to be changed, please use the Reporting Incorrect Data function.

Release Date

Release Date contains the specific date on where the DVD was first released within the country of origin.

Please notice the following things when contributing release dates:

  • Release Date is precise specified information, meaning that if you do not know the specific release date, you should leave the field empty.
  • If a title goes out of print, and is later re-released, the Release Date should contain the date of the original release, as long as the title is still having the same barcode.

Series/Box Set

When contributing a box set profile, child profiles may be created and contributed as well. These child profiles should be attached to the parent profile from the "Series/Box Set" dialog. Certain conditions apply for what is considered a box set, and what may be created as child profiles.

When a profile is contributed as a box set, the system will automatically decline contributions containing data that is not permitted in the parent profile, such as cast and crew.

Box Sets: Once a box set has been contributed with child profiles, additional child profiles may not be added nor may any be removed except by a moderator.

Notice!: You must use the Title and Sort Title options found in Personal Data if you wish to change the Title or Sort in a way that does not conform to this guide.

General Rules

  1. Use correct capitalization of the title per local language standards. For English do not capitalize joining words such as "the", "a", "in" or "of" unless they only are first or last word in the title. An example is "The Lord of the Rings", where "The" is capitalized because it is the first word, "of" and second "the" isn't as it joining words, and "Lord" and "Rings" is capitalized, because they are not joining words; a capitalization such as "The Lord Of The Rings" would be incorrect, and the same would "The lord of the rings". Please pay attention to correct capitalization on non-English languages that must follow the common usage in that specific language.
  2. Never add additional information to the title fields, such as "Full-Screen", "Unrated", "HD", "DTS" or similar, DVD edition information must be added to the "Edition" section, type such as "HD-DVD" must be select in the "Type" field, and audio information goes in the audio section.
  3. The word "Local" in Local Title does not refer to this title being a local one for your personal collection only, the "Local Title" is the main title on the My Movies Online Service and should match the DVD cover.
  4. If the title on the cover includes a possessive, include it only if it is verifiably part of the title. In most cases, the possessive is not part of the actual title. Check how title title is written on the back cover in the credits block or copyright notice. If the possessive is present, check whether it is inside quotation marks. For example, John Carpenter's "Halloween" and "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride", where the quoted part is the actual title. Include the possessive in Local Title and Sort Title if present on the front cover. Include the possessive in Original Title if it is part the registered title in the country of origin. Registered titles may be verified with the copyright, trademark, or film classification office such as the MPAA in US or the BBFC in the UK. IMDb lists titles arbitrarily and is not a reliable reference. If you are unsure, please ask a moderator for assistance.
  5. If the title on the cover consists of multiple parts, use the symbol ":" to separate them, unless the symbol "-" is specifically used.

Local Title

Local Title contains the DVDs title in the country it is released for. This title will be the one typically found on the movie cover. An example would be "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", where Local Title would be "Le seigneur des anneaux: Les deux tours" for a DVD released in France and "Der Herr der Ringe: Die zwei Türme" for a DVD released in Germany. This must be written in the same language as on the cover, even if the language does not match the country of release. The Local Title is required information before contributing a title to the online service.

Original Title

Original Title contains the films main title in the country it was produced in. This title can typical be found on the back of the movie cover as a small note of the original title. An example would be English "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", French "Le seigneur des anneaux: Les deux tours", and German "Der Herr der Ringe: Die zwei Türme" that as original title always would be "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" no matter what country the DVD was released for. When a DVD is released for the same country that it was produced in, the Original Title typically equals the Local Title.

NOTE: The Original Title is what you use when you create a film's Online Movie Details page - NOT the Local Title.

The sorting guidelines below do not apply to box set child profiles. Please refer to the Contributing Box Sets guide for specific instructions.

General Rules

  • Sort Title equals the Local Title, with exceptions of leading words, such as “The” in English, “Die”, “Das” and “Der” in Germany, and similar, where the leading word must be placed behind the title. An example would be the English Sort Title, “Lord of the Rings, The”, and the German Sort Title “Herr der Ringe, Der”.
  • The full title is always used in the Sort field. Do not shorten the title. An example of an incorrect sort would be "Lord of the Rings 1" instead of "Lord of the Rings, The 01: The Fellowship of the Ring".
  • If the title contains roman numbers to denote the sequence number in the series, such as "V" and "IV", these should as sort title be changed to standard numeric values with minimum two digits, such as "05" and "04" - as an example, "Star Wars V: Empire Strikes Back" as Local Title should be added as "Star Wars 05: Empire Strikes Back" as Sort Title.

If a title is a sequel the sort title needs to be set to the common name followed by a two digit number and then the titles proper name. As an example the Indiana Jones movies.

Sorting Titles Without Common Prefixes

Grouping series together is generally acceptable; however is not allowed in situations where a title does not share a common prefix, because universal agreement on this topic is untenable and mostly a matter of personal preference. Please see the chart below for examples of correct and incorrect Sort Title. Changes due to personal preference must be made in "Personal Data" and not contributed to the service.

Edition

Edition contains the edition of the DVD, to be able to distinguish different releases of the same film, such as “Widescreen Edition”, “Full-Screen Edition”, “Unrated” and similar. The edition of the film, if any, is typically printed on the front of the DVD cover. If no edition is printed on the cover, then do not enter any information in this field.

Notice:
  • do not enter disc types, such as "Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy"
  • do not enter case types such as "Keep Case" and "SteelBook"
  • do not write "Standard", "Edition Simple", "Widescreen", "Einzel-DVD", or similar if these are not specifically found on the cover

Film Details

Production Year

Production Year contains the year the film originally was released to theatres. This original release year is to be used also on new creations of the film, such as directors cut or similar, meaning that new creations do not give the title a new Production Year. If no production year is added on a profile, you may import it from IMDB when importing actors or crew.

Box Sets: No production year shall be entered.

Runtime

Running Time contains the length in minutes of the main movie of the DVD, without extra material, intros or similar. Generally, the length of the title can be found on the DVD cover, and this is the main source, unless you can find a significant difference in actual running time of the movie only as displayed by the player, in which case the actual running time of the movie is the one to use. Running time must be rounded to nearest full minute, 30 second and above rounds up. An example would be that the player shows 90 minutes and 43 seconds running time, in which case running time must be specified as 91 minutes, even if the cover specifies 90 minutes.

Box Sets: Enter the total running time of all titles, excluding bonus features.

Parental Rating

Parental Rating contains the rating of the DVD in the country the DVD was released for. The Parental Rating can be found on the DVD cover if the DVD is rated. If the DVD is not rated, use the setting “Unrated”. The rating settings follow the country specified for the title, so when creating new titles manually, be sure to specify a country for correct Parental Rating options. If the Parental Rating levels are not known for the country the DVD was released for, a standard set of levels will be used.

In case a title contains multiple versions of a movie, where the Parental Rating differs, the Parental Rating should be provided from the version with the strictest rating. For example, if a title contains a PG-13 and an Unrated version, the Parental Rating must be "Unrated."

If the title is considered pornography, then you must select "XXX" or similar rating appropriate to the country of release. It is also required that the "Adult" check box is marked.

Box Sets: Parental Rating shall be set to "none", unless the parental rating is specifically applied to the box set as a whole.

Rating Cause

The Rating Cause is the reason provided by the ratings board for the rating applied to the title. The rating cause is often found on the back cover next to the parental rating, when the DVD was released for a country where descriptions or reasons are specified along with the parental ratings. If no description is known, the field should be left blank. If the Rating Cause is known from external sources (other editions of the movie sharing the same rating, official movie informational pages, etc) - then it may be inputted. Do not make up your own personal Rating Cause.

For example, if the Parental Rating specified on the cover is the "PG-13", the reason given for the rating is "violence, some sexuality and brief strong language", then this should be typed as:

  • Rated PG-13 for Violence, Some Sexuality and Brief Strong Language

Box Sets: Rating Cause shall be left blank, unless the rating cause is specifically applied to the box set as a whole.

Adult

This box is to be checked if the title is pornographic, and only if it is pornographic, and not just films which you feel are not for children (violence, swearing, etc.). A film containing incidental or gratuitous nudity or implied sexual acts is not considered pornography. The film is pornographic if, when taken as whole, is created with the express purpose of stimulating sexual arousal of the viewer, with the stars of the film often performing actual sexual acts. If this box is incorrectly checked, it will prevent many people from downloading the title.

Note: Parental Controls must be specifically configured to enable access to adult titles on the online service.

Some examples of films series which can be categorized as erotic to some degree, but are not considered pornographic, include:
Box Sets: Shall be marked as "Adult" if any pornographic titles are contained in the box set.

Genres

Genres are for some titles listed on the title cover, but in other situations Genres come down to the individual user’s interpretation. It is recommended to use IMDb as source for Genres, if the genres are not listed on the title cover, or if you are unsure of which Genres to add. If no genres is added on a profile, you may import them from IMDB when importing actors or crew.

Notice!: Use Categories for personalization instead of Genres, as Genres are part of the General Profile Data and are applied to all users.
Box Sets: Genres shall not be entered.

IMDb ID

IMDb ID's refer to IDs on The Internet Movie Database, and can be located by searching their website. After locating the title, the website address will appear such as "http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234567", where numbers in "tt1234567" differs for each title - the "tt1234567" string is the IMDb ID to enter. If the title is not present on IMDb, you may use the ID "tt0000000". The IMDb ID is required data before submitting to the online service.

IMDb ID's for adult titles and individual episodes of TV series can only be found by manually searching on IMDB and not through the Collection Management interface. Adult titles require a registered account and adult titles enabled in user preferences. To import data from IMDb for adult films or TV series episodes, you must search by ID instead of title after manually obtaining the ID from the IMDb web site.

Box Sets: IMDb ID shall be set to "tt0000000".

Media Type

Media Type describes the general content of the title: Movie, TV Series, Documentary, Music, or Other. Keep in mind the following when contributing Media Type:

  • The content of a TV series does not in any way effect its Media Type; it should in all cases be TV series. For example, do not classify a documentary format TV series (ie, Planet Earth) as Documentary.
  • Music is typically for concerts and music videos. It is not for movies (ie, Rent) or TV series (ie, Glee) that could be described as musicals or have music as a central theme.
  • Movie type should not include documentary films (ie, An Inconvenient Truth).

If you are unsure which Media Type to use, please ask a moderator.

Blu-ray 3D

Identifies a title using the "Multiview Video Coding" format for 3D video on a Blu-ray disc. Such discs are usually labeled as "Blu-ray 3D" and identify the video format in specifications as "MVC".

3D titles using other stereoscopic formats, such as anaglyph 3D, should not be marked as Blu-ray 3D.

Discs

Discs must be contributed as the exact number of discs in the release, contributing only one disc of a multiple disc release is not valid. For a single disc release, the name of the disc must be either "Disc 1" or "Main Feature" or the localized equivalent in the language of the country specified on the profile, unless a specific disc name is specified on the disc itself, in which case all three options are valid.

Since a single version of a disc is often released in many countries, the disc name specified on the disc itself may not follow the language of the country specified on the profile. In that situation, it is allowed to specify the disc name as the localized equivalent of the name specified on the disc.

For multiple disc releases, the rules for single disc releases applies, except that the discs must primarily be named with the name specified on the discs, or, if not specified on the discs be named "Disc 1", "Disc 2", "Disc 3" and so forth - again, specifying the localized equivalent of these is allowed.

Disc ID's is a unique ID identifying the individual disc, and is read from the disc itself, by inserting it into a drive. The Disc ID may only be read from the original disc, and not from mounted ISO's or backup discs, as the Disc ID of these is changed in the backup process.

Because a disc ID cannot be read from a Digital Copy disc, the disc ID requirement can be completed by checking the "Is a Digital Copy" option. A "Digital Copy" disc cannot be the only disc in a profile.

In the case of mixed disc types contained in a single release, all discs still must be contributed. For example, a "Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy" edition and the digital copy is contained on a dedicated disc, there must a disc entry for each disc, for a total of 3 disc entries.

Audio

Audio Tracks is not always easy to contribute, as the individual audio track is not always specifically identified on the back cover, but have different names depending on which studio released the title.

When contributing audio tracks, notice the following:

  • In some situations, only “5.1”, “Stereo”, “Mono” or similar is listed, without a specified type. In these situations, a Dolby Digital logo is often found on the back cover to identify that the type of the audio track is Dolby Digital, or a DTS logo to identify a DTS audio track.
  • An audio track specified as “Uncompressed” refers to PCM audio tracks.
  • DTS-HD audio tracks that are not specifically specified as “High Resolution” or “Master Audio” must be added as “High Resolution”.
  • "Dolby stereo surround" or "Dolby 2.0 surround" means "Dolby Surround" (not to be confused with Dolby Surround EX or Dolby Digital) and will either be "3.0" or "4.0", as these are the actual number of Channels when decoded.

It is required to list all audio tracks listed on the titles back cover, listing only some of these will be considered an incorrect contribution.

In case a title contains multiple versions of a movie, where the Audio options differs, the Audio should be provided from what is being considered the primary version in the release, or, in situations when no part of the release can be seen as primary, it should be specified from the first disc added to the profile.

In case you are unsure of which audio track to select, contribute the title front and back cover to the service, and ask on the forums which audio track to specify. If you are unsure, you should not be contributing audio tracks.

Box Sets: Audio information shall not be entered.

Subtitles

Subtitles refer to subtitles on the main movie; subtitles on extra material should not be listed.

It is required to list all subtitles listed on the titles back cover, listing only some of these will be considered an incorrect contribution. If the subtitle language is not available, select “Other”.

When a disc ID for a DVD is read from the disc the first time, and the subtitles are not already entered, it is possible to import the subtitle tracks automatically. However, please ensure it is correct and complete, by comparing against the DVD cover and available options when playing the disc.

Only subtitles that can be activated from the disc menu should be entered. Any subtitle or caption that is burned into the film or only enabled by the television set are not to be included.

In the case of a disc not containing any subtitles in the main feature, you may select "The title does not contain any subtitles."

In case a title contains multiple versions of a movie, where the Subtitle options differs, the Subtitles should be provided from what is being considered the primary title in the release, or, in situations when no part of the release can be seen as primary, it should be specified from the first disc added to the profile.

Box Sets: Subtitles shall not be entered.

Format

The Video Format specifies the format of the video on the disc, as specified on the back cover. If the Video Format is not specified on the back cover, you may only contribute the Video Format if you can confirm the format from other sources, such as the movie player. For DVD's, then options are NTSC for United States and Canada, and PAL for Europe, Australia and other areas. Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and HD DVD titles has the same video formats in the whole world, always specified as the vertical resolution, along with an "i" for interlaced, or "p" for progressive, such as 720p, 1080i, 1080p and 2048p.

In case a title contains multiple versions of a movie, where the Video Format differs, the Video Format should be provided from what is being considered the primary title in the release, or, in situations when no part of the release can be seen as primary, it should be specified from the first disc added to the profile.

Mastered in 4K

Some Blu-ray discs are optimized for 4K displays. If this is specifically described on the cover, indicate the "Mastered in 4K" status by checking the box.

NOTE: Do not confuse this to mean any title that has source material mastered in 4K.

Aspect Ratio

Aspect Ratio is the aspect ratio of the movie, as typically specified on the back of DVD the cover. Notice that the Aspect Ratio often is specific to the DVD release, as different versions of the DVD release often exists with different aspect ratios. In case the Aspect Ratio is not written on the back of the DVD cover, you may use IMDB as reference for the original movies Aspect Ratio, and provide that as the expected aspect ratio of the DVD release.

In case a title contains multiple versions of a movie, where the Aspect Ratio differs, the Aspect Ratio should be provided from what is being considered the primary title in the release, or, in situations when no part of the release can be seen as primary, it should be specified from the first disc added to the profile.

A cover may state "widescreen", "16:9", or "1.78:1" when in fact the aspect ratio may be some variation thereof (1.85, 2.35, etc.). In such cases please attempt to provide the actual aspect ratio.

If the film's aspect ratio is not in the available options, then you may type it in manually.

Box Sets: Aspect Ratio shall not be selected.

Basic Rules

  1. Capitalization must be kept as it is on the cover, and special letters, such as ©, ®, and similar must be typed in too. Special characters can be copied from the Windows Character Map application. In situations where the full description is written in capitalized letters, capitalization should not be kept, and standard writing capitalization rules should be used.
  2. You may not contribute other languages than the one written on the cover, even if the language written on the cover does not match the country of origin.
  3. You may not use HTML or other markup.
  4. As the Description and Extras must match as on the cover, you may not contribute these before the full cover is available.
  5. External sources are not acceptable, nor may you write your own.

Special rules for entering Description:
  1. Do not contribute taglines, reviews, extra features or similar, unless it is a direct part of the description. You may contribute a non-review tagline from a front cover or back cover, if it sufficiently helps describe the movie. An example of this would be "When Death Has A Name" or "Fear Now Takes You" and then the Description follows on the opposite or same cover.
    • The important part here is that we do not want any non-essential critic taglines that extol the movie's merits on a critical basis.
  2. If a title has no description, and only if a title has no description on the title cover, you may use the symbol "-" for future automating purposes.
  3. Do not put additional information in the Description that is not present on the title cover. This includes TV episode titles, TV episode synopses - UNLESS they are included on the title cover - then they are considered part of the Description.
  4. If a title holds descriptions in multiple languages, such as cross-country releases, you may leave out any language in the description that is not spoken in the country of origin.

Box Sets: If no text qualifies as a description, you may enter a list of the titles contained within the set.

Special rules for entering Extras
  1. Do not contribute information about extra features that is not mentioned on the cover.
  2. If no description of extra material is present on the title cover, only in this case you may click the box “The title does not contain any extra material” to be able to complete the title.
  3. Items such as 'Interactive Menus' may be included as an extra feature.

Box Sets: Extras shall only be entered if they are mentioned on the main box.

Studios

Studios refer to the studios which released the movie in theaters, the production companies which actually made the film, and the distributing studio on disc, and must be added in that order:

  1. Studio behind the theatrical release
  2. Production company or companies
  3. Disc distribution company

It is required to at least specify the studios mentioned on the back cover on the title, contributing only some of the studios listed on the titles back cover will be considered an invalid contribution.

Box Sets: Studios shall not be entered.

Cast

Actors includes, but is not limited to:

  • film and stage actors
  • hosts, narrators
  • singers, band members

If there less than the required amount of confirmed actors to complete the actors section to 100%, you may select "The title contains no other actors." Selecting this option when there are still easily identifiable actors for the title, found on DVD cover, film credits or IMDb is considered an incorrect contribution.

Box Sets: Cast members shall not be entered.

Crew Members

Crew specifies the persons involved in direction, production, music, and similar roles in the making of the title.

Do not use "various", "multiple", "unknown" or similar as a crew member name. If multiple persons are credited for the same function, each should be entered separately. If the name of the director or similar is not known, then that role should be omitted from the Crew data.

Box Sets: Crew members shall not be entered.

Cover Art


Covers contributed are required to match the title exactly, meaning that the barcode on the back cover must specifically be the same as the barcode of the profile.

Contributed covers must not contained text, stamps, watermarks or anything else that is not part of the original cover scan, such as “Copyrighted Material” stamps, store logos or similar. Contributing covers with such stamps is considered invalid contributions.

If a title is not yet released, and the cover is therefore not available, you may contribute a movie poster of the title, as long as this is only contributed as a front cover, and as long as the contribution is made prior to the titles release date.

Please notice the following when contributing covers:

  • Edition or media banners that are part of the actual cover art should not be removed from the contributed image.
  • Do not alter cover images to an artificial size.
  • If a cover is listed as "improvable cover area", ensure that the image is correctly scanned and cropped. For Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and HD DVD titles, the message is expected to occur for many cover types and should be ignored if the cover is correct.
  • Contributing on top of existing covers may only be done if the existing covers do not follow the contribution guide, or when the program lists covers as “Improvable”, and/or your contributed covers is of a better quality than the existing ones.
  • You may not contribute custom edited covers. Only covers specifically from the original material are allowed, however improving scanned colors, and removing scanning artifacts is allowed.
  • You may not contribute photos to the system. The covers must be scans for consistent quality.
  • Contributed covers must include only front and back cover parts. There should not be any blank spaces around the sides or spine (center) present on the images. When selecting a full cover scan, in most situations the cover will automatically be split by the program, but is your responsibility that the cover is split and cropped correctly before contributing.
  • If you contribute a cover without a barcode, you must be certain that the contributed cover is of the correct title and edition.
  • If a back cover is not available, contribute only the front cover. Never contribute the front cover, poster, or other images in the back cover slot for any reason.
  • If contributing a front or back cover to a profile, where the profile after your contribution will have both front and back cover, you must contribute both the front and back cover to ensure that there is a match in both sizes and quality of the front and back cover.
  • If a title has optional reverse covers, e.g. with different artwork, language listings, or without rating marks etc. these should not be used.
  • If a title has a slip cover either the slip or case cover may be contributed, but the front and rear must be a matching set. There is not a preference though moderators may sometimes change a version for one that has more title information if one version lacks details present on the other. Existing covers should not be replaced with a different version unless the existing do not follow the contribution guide or are listed as “improvable” for quality.
  • If the covers contributed to the profile are those of a slip cover the “Slip Cover” tick box to the right of the cover type selection should be ticked but the cover type should be set based on the inner cased item. See Cover Type.
  • If a title has a data slip attached to the rear of the box with the description etc. which is common for many box sets and steelbooks, this must be included when scanning the covers, where these fold over or wrap around onto the front cover these elements should also be included in the cover scans.
  • In case of wendecovers, typically used in Germany and some other countries, where one side of the cover contains a rating logo, and the other does not, the side without the rating logo should be contributed. You may contribute updated covers without the logo if the existing covers contains it, and your contribution matches the quality in both resolution and visual quality. You may not contribute covers containing the rating logos if the existing covers does not contain it, even if your covers is of a higher quality visually or in resolution compared to the existing.

When contributing covers, these will automatically be down-scaled to 300 dpi, and a JPEG quality of 85 of 100. It is therefore recommended to scan in 300 or higher dpi when scanning covers.

Reporting Incorrect Data



If a profile contains incorrect data, you may report it to the moderators for review. The report form is accessed:

  • in the menu, by clicking "Title / Report Incorrect Data"
  • in the shortcut icons, by clicking the yellow triangle
  • by right-clicking on the title in the title list and selecting "Report Incorrect Data"

Please keep in mind the following when reporting incorrect data:
  • If an issue applies to multiple titles, make a separate report for each.
  • If a single title contains multiple issues, do not report each one individually.
  • Be clear and concise. If the report is too brief or hard to understand, and the issue is not immediately obvious, the report will be handled without action and you will be asked to give more details.
  • The moderators may not be able to handle reports in languages other than English.

The support forum should not be used for reporting incorrect data, unless a special circumstance exists that prevents it. By reporting directly through Collection Management, it is ensured that the moderators are looking at the correct profile when handling the report.

By reporting incorrect data, you also gain contribution points:
  • 0 points if you are reporting your own mistake, or if the report cannot be confirmed by our moderators to be an actual issue on incorrect data.
  • 5 points if you are reporting an issue that helps a moderator correct any incorrect data.
  • 10 points if you are reporting an issue that you have already corrected yourself.
  • 15 points if you report a title that should be deleted from the service, such as a title that have been contributed to an incorrect country, or a title that have been entered with a barcode that does not exist, or does not refer to the profile in question.

Requesting Profile Lock or Unlock

When a title profile is completed and no longer improvable, and considering that box set main profiles will correctly be less than 100%, you may request a title to be locked from further editing, to prevent future unnecessary or incorrect contributions.

Please keep in mind the following when requesting a title be locked or unlocked:
  • If requesting a title be locked, you must first thoroughly check all data for correctness, including data you did not contribute yourself.
  • If requesting a title be unlocked, please state exactly what is to be changed. Follow up with a new report to request a re-lock when editing is completed.
