Looking for the simplest way to view the app on my TV. Would like to have my home theater start up on an input showing my library.
I have rokus, a Mi Box, a laptop (without the app, since it created lots of problems when installed), chromecast, and a fire TV.
Does anyone know a good way to view the app on TV? Been quite a pain trying to get this simple function to work. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

There is an app on the Roku, and a corresponding app on iOS (maybe Android too), that allows you to display your phone/tablet's screen on your TV. I think it is free, or at least very affordable, and once you connect your phone/tablet's app to the Roku, you're good to go. Is this what you're trying to do? I can look up the app name later if that's what you need, but I found it by scrolling through the list of Roku apps on the Roku itself. I think the app even has Roku in the name (something like Play To Roku). I'm assuming the OP wants not only to access but play his library on the big screen, so here goes:
All your devices were designed with streaming capabilities being the focal point, and therefore lack expandability. I don't own any of them, but from what I've gathered each one has its own eco-system which in turn requires developers to compile a new plugin ("app") to support it. That's the beauty of the PC in my opinion, it gives you maximum compatibility.
My Movies was primarily written as a Windows program, and then ported to the most popular platforms. I understand you encountered issues with your laptop install, may I ask what kind of? I've been using the Windows version for about 7 years now, and for the most part it worked as intended. If you are not in favor of Windows, there are plugins which let you fetch the My Movies meta-data for Kodi (cross-platform) and (some of?) the Dune network players.
If you have any questions going forward, please feel free to ask. I strongly recommend you to build/buy a dedicated HTPC. Nothing comes close to the freedom, independence and beauty that it entails.

If the app your referring to is WMC using the mymovies app I recommend you use CMC Chameleon MediaCenter. https://chamconsoft.com/cmc/features.html. It is easy to set up and use. In my opinion CMC is the replacement to Windows media center. MyMovies for windows is two apps in one. It has the Mymovies Collection Management app which is used to rip and enter your discs. The second app is WMC (windows media center) which displays your collection on the TV screen. That is if you want to use your HTPC (laptop). Just hook up the HDMI cable to the HTPC and the TV. WMC was dropped many years ago by MicroSoft and is a pain to setup and keep running on windows 10. That is why I recommend dumping WMC and use CMC (Chameleon MediaCenter) to replace WMC. All you need to do is have your disc titles setup In the Mymovies CM app and then point CMC to the proper folder where mymovies placed your rips. With CMC you can install. MPC-BE, or VLC or one of the other free movie players and your off and running. If you want more sophistication you can buy Cyberlink's Powerdvd 18. You also need to install Powerdvd, or some other player on windows with WMC too. That Is why I recommended the free players/ Also, if you want just get a windows player like powerdvd 18, or MPC-BE, or VLC and just manually play your discs without mymovies and CMC. If this is too complicated for you do what Paul suggested. Jamie

As a privacy-conscious person, I generally advise against Windows 10. If he wants to use his laptop's HDMI port and it was shipped with Windows 10, I guess he'll have to live with it. In that scenario, CMC is indeed the easiest option for My Movies users. Although there is plenty of documentation on how to get WMC working on Win10, so it's not that big of an issue. If he wants to go "all the way" though and build a dedicated HTPC, there is no convincing reason against Windows 7. HTPC savvy people know it's unwise to update them anyway (I never updated mine). I've been running WMC7 for about 7 years and don't intend to change anytime soon. For anything that isn't integrated in WMC, just use your browser. jkwaterman wrote:You also need to install Powerdvd, or some other player on windows with WMC too. It's gonna cost you about twice as CMC I believe, if you don't want to actually spend the time contributing.

What I want to do is have the android (or ios if necessary) MyMovies app appear on my TV when I start my home theater. I don't want to cast from my phone (I need my phone and want this to be working 100% of the time, even when my phone isn't there), and don't need anything related to burned, ripped or served up disc libraries. All of my movies (physical and UV) are cataloged in cases, by Book and Page, and that location is referenced in My Movies app (android) . So, I probably use My Movies differently than most users. With that said, I want the app to open up when I start the home theater and allow anyone using the theater to locate the movie they want to watch. I suppose I need to buy a tablet with an HDMI out, install the app, and then just use it as a dedicated library, unless theres a simpler way out there. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks everyone.

Paul Thanks, this is close (in a perfect world, I could use the My Movies app via the Roku, or side load it onto the MiBox), but I do t want to cast unless absolutely necessary. Too many drop outs, it doesn't stay permanently connected, etc. But, this is the idea, to get the My Movies app to be viewed and usable on my TV/projector on its own input.

There are Android and iOS emulators for the PC. These allow you to run apps on your Windows PC. These are typically to allow developers the ability to test their apps while they develop them on the same PC. But I don't see any reason why you couldn't use one of these emulators all the time. There's actually quite a few different emulators - I think some emulate the full device experience, while others just run the app almost like a native Windows program. I don't know how close you could come to the ideal workflow (i.e. autostart the emulator when the PC starts, and then inside Android autostart the My Movies app), but it might be possible. The biggest challenge would probably be that Android/iOS are primarily designed for touchscreens. While you can use a mouse with these emulators, that might not be the convenient user experience you're looking for. Having a dedicated tablet that is casting to the TV sounds better to me, as then you have a touchscreen at your fingertips which makes browsing very easy for the person holding the tablet, while also allowing everyone to see what's going on via the TV. I remember forever ago buying a 1st gen iPad and a Sonos, just to have a nice GUI for my music collection at my fingertips. It was (and still is) a great solution, and that might be great for your purposes too. But you're right about it not staying connected, that's a good point. You're also right that it would be awesome if Binnerup created a Roku app. But to be honest, I think you're leaving the best option overlooked. CMC is designed to run on Windows PC's, and to display your collection. Exactly what you're trying to do with the app. There are some users showing their offline collection with it too, so there's no requirement to burn, rip, or otherwise have your media online. And if you include a Blu-ray drive in the PC, then when you grab a movie off the shelf, just pop it in and enjoy, without having to change any inputs. CMC will automatically launch your player when you insert the disc. Full disclosure: I am the author of CMC, so feel free to take my advice with a pinch of salt as I'm obviously biased. Though I have tried to provide realistic answers to the exact questions you were asking. Also, you mention that you have recorded each disc's location (book & page) in My Movies. I am planning to add that data to CMC, so that when you find a movie to watch you can hit play, and it will tell you it is offline and where it is located, but at the moment it doesn't do this yet.
