Just a quick FYI for any My Movies app users who don't already know, if you also have an online collection stored on a media server, Chameleon Media Center is a great way to play your library on your HTPC and - BONUS - it works with this My Movies app too.

In the My Movies app, you enable the remote control and add a "My Movies for WMC" Player for each of your CMC HTPC's. CMC has a systray service that runs and will receive the commands from the My Movies app, responding as if it were a Windows Media Center PC. Then you can use your phone or tablet to control your HTPC, and also to initiate playback. When you select a movie in the app to play, it sends the command to the CMC PC, which will launch CMC if it is not already running, browse to the chosen movie, and initiate playback.

This feature was developed and tested using the previous My Movies 3 app. I expect it should work with the new My Movies 4 app, but I haven't tested it just yet - if there are any issues I will fix them. I just got my v4 app upgrade yesterday, so I'll be testing it soon.

For those that don't know what Chameleon Media Center is, it is a replacement for WMC that looks very similar to the My Movies plugin for WMC. You still use My Movies Collection Management to maintain your collection, and CMC is used to browse it and play your media with the video player(s) of your choice. Unlike WMC, CMC works on all versions of Windows from Win7 through Win11, installation is easy, and you get all the latest features of My Movies like Movie Collections which never made it to the WMC plugin for My Movies. Since CMC was designed as a new front-end for My Movies, it is hands down the best front-end available for My Movies users.

Oh, and CMC is completely free. No adds. No tracking. For best results, you will need at least 2500 My Movies Contribution Points to enable access to the My Movies API, which is how CMC gets data from My Movies.

There's a lot more to CMC than I can cover here. More info can be found in the main My Movies Windows support forum, or you can click the link in my signature.

Happy New Year everyone!
Paul
