I use MyMovies due to its tight integration with Windows Media Center. I have kept WMC going over the years with the upgrades required so that it is still running on my Windows 11 23H2 systems. I cannot upgrade windows beyond 23H2 as newer releases completely break WMC. Every time I start any of my three client computers I get the notification that MyMovies 5.41 is available (it hasn't figured out that 5.43 is the latest). I cannot upgrade to 5.41 as this no longer works with WMC. I have tried everything I can think of to stop the nagging pop ups. They appear in WMC everytime I choose a Movie or TV show. Is there a way of killing this notification for good? I tried registry entries and set most mymovies.dk web addresses to 127.0.0.1 in my hosts file but it still keeps nagging.

Hi,

This is unfortunately not possible - the system is set up to inform about being on a deprecated version.

I would strongly suggest to find an alternative to Windows Media Center.

Unfortunately WMC has WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) and this overrides all other considerations. Laughing

There are settings while in MyMovies in WMC where you can deselect 'Ask to install program updates' and 'Ask to install pre-release updates.' They're in the hidden Navigation Menu at the top of the screen. If you're using a mouse, click the little arrows at the ends of the Navigation Menu to expand it, then click Settings > Automatic Updates. If you're using a remote, just navigate to the top of the screen, then make the same selections.

See if that helps.

In my case, those boxes are not checked (i.e. they are deselected), but I still get the nag to upgrade to 5.41.

Just FYI, in case others are wondering.

Unfortunately, I am in the same situation. Just want to stop the nagging.

Out of curiosity (Binnerup), what programs work well with MYMOVIES, that you would suggest on the windows side and that work well with the newest version? If there were an EASY conversion to a different program that had the same "wife acceptance factor", I would consider "upgrading". I have used Chameleon Media Center, but it is not "quite" the same.

I do not think that there are any better alternatives than Chameleon Media Center.

I first started with MyMovies back when I had Win7 machine running Media Center as my server.. It was a great setup and I was able to stream my movies to my home theater quite easily..

Since Microsoft has stopped supporting Media Center and Binnerup has not provided any other solutions to stream movies.. I switched over to various different media servers.. Emby, JellyFin, XBMC, until finally settling with Plex.

So for the past 5 years or so, I was only using MyMovies to catalog my disks.. But now that discs are becoming harder and harder to find.. I am actually stopped using MyMovies over the past year...

With Plex, I am able to stream to any of my TVs in my home, I no longer need to be tied to a full size PC in order to stream.. In fact, most of the current TVs nowadays have the Plex Software as a app that you can install for free.

My advice.... Look into moving to something more current like Plex or Jellyfin..

Users who are looking for playback front-ends have for many years been advised to look for alternatives.

Hello everyone. To prevent the MyMovies update window from appearing in WMC Movies, simply add the following lines to the end of C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file:

127.0.0.1 www.mymovies.dk
127.0.0.1 webservice.mymovies.dk
127.0.0.1 api.mymovies.dk

You can create a batch script to automate activation and deactivation (so you can work with MyMovies whenever you need it).

Hallo

This is not recommended, as it means the app in Windows Media Center also do not have access to the service.

True.. When I started using MyMovies, it was fully integrated into Windows Media Center on a win7 machine.. It was great.. I was able to catalog my DVDs, use the MyMovies app to display movie titles in my home theater, and select to play whatever movie I wanted to see..

But since WM7 was replaced. MyMovies decided to get away from interfacing with future products..

So now instead of being a core app in my Home Theater that users can scan my dvd titles and select something to watch.. It has turned into just a database tool for me to keep track of my collection of thousands of dvds that I have purhcased over the year.s..

Then streaming became popular, and being able to puchase DVDs was getting harder and harder. Big stores like Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc stopped selling DVDs and Blu-rays. Even the rental places like Netflix, RedBox, etc all went away. and not basically everything is streaming.. The last DVD I purchased was about 2 years ago.. since then everything has been streamed from one of the many online services..

And to make things worse.. MyMovies switched to a subscription model. So now I am limited to only seeing 50 of my movie titles. Unless I want to pay lots of money for an app where I am no longer adding movie titles to, which cannot stream to any of my devices, then what is the point?

Hence why I have essentially replaced MyMovies with Plex.. It has catalogued all my movies. I get all the information from the titles like i had in MyMovies.. Plus I now am able to get complete data for my movies instead of relying on User input on your movie database..

so it goes back to the question.. Why use MyMovies if it no longer supports playback to stream to any of the media clients? And it only acts like a database?
