There has been an article added to the Wiki Section of the forum to help give some guidelines on how to handle Box Sets and the Webservice.
If you have any questions about how it may apply to your Box Sets, don't hesitate to ask questions! :)
http://wiki.mymovies.dk/Box%20Sets.ashx

Update: January 4, 2009 - added some clarifications to Fields that should be left Blank and a few more changes (Sorting Standard) to the wiki.

Hi,
The guide says to leave some sections blank, actors etc. Is it okay to tick the box "this title contains no other...."? And should I report all of the boxsets I have put up? Because they are all wrong. I put the actors list from the first title, the earliest production date and something else I probably shouldnt of.

No need to report them, just fix them since they are your own submissions.

The Wiki has been updated to reflect a few more Fields that should be left blank, and a sorting standard, so you might want to check it again before you begin.
And like Boyce said: you can just fix them on your end (make sure they are fully updated first from the WS) and then contribute them to the WS: no need to report your own titles if you can fix them. :)

Ok I'll set about fixing them now. Didnt know I was allowed to submit a less complete version of a title without permission.

Another question I have a few "boxsets" which have movies with limited or no link between the titles. How should I name these?

eg.
I have Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Bulletproof Monk and The Replacement Killers in a 3 disc single case. How should I name this? Currently its listed a Chow Yun Fat Collectors Pack since he is the main actor in every movie. But it doesnt actually have a name on the boxset just the three titles and the words "3 movie collectors pack" across the top.

What is the UPC for this one? You will probably have to name it as it's called, no matter how long that might make it. Embarassed
Probably:
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon / Bulletproof Monk / The Replacement Killers: 3 Pack
or whatever the technical name is. I know it's long, but..

Cant check from this computer, I put the names of all the DVD's that were like that as each individual title listed in the order on the box. Pretty much like you have written, but without the "3 pack" part.

This article mentions that TV box sets should be one title which in general I can understand with the likes of Lost or Star Trek box sets for example. But there are TV series where this would seem wrong to me. The Classic series of Doctor Who is generally released as individual stories, as each story is usually made up of 4 or 6 episodes of 25 minuets. But some times they pack these stories as box sets. For example the ‘Beneath the Surface’ box set contains the titles 'Doctor Who and the Silurians' (1970), 'The Sea Devils' (1973), and ‘Warriors of the Deep’ (1984), or the ‘Trial of a Time Lord’ Box set that contains all 4 stories form the 1986 series and each story has it’s own disc, extras and standard DVD case. Now as these are generally sold individual stories and not in box sets shouldn’t they warrant there own title on the database?

Any chance you can post UPC/EAN barcodes for the examples you mention? Thanks, Nick

The Barcodes are
Beneath The Surface 5014503243821
Doctor Who and the Silurians 5014503243821
The Sea Devils 5014503243821
These have indvidual barcodes, but from the 'K-9 Tales box' 5014503243920 set they don't although they are still packaged as individual stories. 'K-9 and company' is this box set and is a spin of not an actual Doctor Who story.
The Trial of a Time Lord box barcode is 5014503242220 but the individual stories 'The Mysterious Planet', 'Mindwarp', 'Terror of the Vervoids' and 'The Ultimate Foe' don't have barcodes.

I have a the Deadwood ultimate poker collection, which is a boxset of the 3 seasons of Deadwood. Each season has its own keep case with a cover but no barcodes. The box that holds them is a large wooden box with "Deadwood" written on a plaque. Do I just not submit a cover for the holding title?

How good are your creative scanning abilities? Wink There should be a cover.. If you list a barcode, perhaps I can find covers that have already been scanned somehow..

Heres a link with a picture of whats in the boxset
http://www.devoteddvd.com.au/shop/product_info.php?products_id=38889

The barcode is 9324915071414

If by creative scanning you mean photomanipulation I was thinking about just making my own cover and not submitting it, just so I had something.

Yeh, that does pose a problem, doesn't it?
By "creative scanning abilities" I meant "3-D photography" heh heh.
I have no idea how this box could be contributed to the Webservice, unless we used the Deadwood Logo and the box background: just a part of the box...

I am having some difficulties sumbmitting a boxset to the webservice. I have the HD-DVD Harry Potter Years 1-5 limited edition boxset. The main title, UPC 085391169826, was already contributed to webservice incorrectly per the 'Box Sets' wiki entry. I went through the process of correcting the disc IDs and removing the data from all of the fields that shouldn't have data. The boxset came in a cardboard chest style box so doesn't conform to the HD-DVD standard size. I tried to add the images from here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W45D06 as they most correctly represent the boxset but I get an error stating that the size is incorrect. The UPC was on the wrapper so doesn't exist anywhere on the boxset.

My second issue is now I a can't add the individual titles as the disc ID already exists in the main boxset. I am not sure how to set the main boxset as the holding title so I can add the individual disks with the correct disc ID. Please help.

Update your title - I added some covers that probably look a little better than the Amazon pictures.
As for the individual discs - it looks like they are shipped in their own individual slipcases without barcodes on the back of each slipcase? If that's the case, you need to creat a 00000-etc. barcode for each disc and then on the Main Title entry add each one using the Series/Box-set icon near the bottom of the page. This method of adding entries to a box-set is different from just adding discs, because it involves adding Sub Titles that you create.

Thank you. Those images are much better. When I create the sub-titles do I still include the disc ID for each disc so it is included in both the main title and individual title? And when I re-add this to my collection online will MM pull down both the individual titles and the main boxset?

PS-
Can you email me the cover art so I can add it to each of the subtitles please?

1- Yes, you add the Disc ID to each subtitle
2- If you search by Disc ID from Add Title, it should give you several choices: the main Box Set and then the individual profiles.
3- The Cover Art for each individual title should be from the slipcases that hold each disc, if there are individual slipcases... http://www.mymovies.dk/documentation/wiki.aspx?Page=Box%20Sets

The only issue I see is that half of the discs are in CD size slip cases so from past experience I am not sure the MM will let me import them. I can use photoshop to make them look nice at the right size. Advice?

You should be able to use them on your local pc - but if you need to submit them to the Webservice, a moderator can submit the covers for you if you let us know before you submit your data.
