Hello, I would like to use PowerDVD 16 together with my Windows 8.1 MediaCenter (x64) to play Blu-rays (2D and 3D) that are available as .iso files on my HD. Because of the following entry of the MyMovies 5.22 release notes I installed it and started my test period: Quote:Added: Support for PowerDVD 16 through external players integration. Unfortunately I didn't get it working. I disabled autoplay in the windows settings and installed Virtual CloneDrive (btw. PowerDVD 16 also can mount ISO's) and it seem to work. But when I start to play any movie using the new MyMovies movie library strip I always get the message that I have to install a software for playing Blu-rays first - same as without MyMovies. Could you please help me what is the trick? I'm using the 30 days test version of PowerDVD 16, because I want to be sure it's working like this. Best regards, Norbert

Have you also set the external player selection in settings? Collection Management - Tools - Settings - Media Center Players

Yes, I set all options to "Cyberlink PowerDVD 16".

Is " Virtual CloneDrive" required as well perhaps? If so, do you have it installed Rabbit_MC? My DVD/Blu-ray CollectionHome Theater Gallery

Virtual CloneDrive is installed and working. As far as I can see the ISO will be mounted and is ready but PowerDVD is not starting. I can start the mounted Blu-ray if I choose "play with PowerDVD 16" from the right click menu of the explorer.

Is that Windows autoplay you disabled? Note the internal auto play of Media Center is different and independent of those settings I believe and its Media Center's autoplay that needs to be off. If you install Power DVD I believe it installs or there is an option to install an internal player within WMCE, if that is installed you shouldn't need to mess about with external players or disabling Media Center's autoplay. It should be the registered player for a Blu-ray and just start. This might help: http://www.mymovies.dk/how-to/written-documentation.aspx?Page=Playing%20ISO%20ImagesUsing the external player setup requires disabling Windows Media Center's autoplay, not the Windows's autoplay settings I believe. I hope I'm getting this right as it is not something I use. I think that you are getting the prompt you must install playback software indicates two things, one you don't have the WMCE internal version of Power DVD installed (not sure of there still is one or not) and that you don't have Media Center's autoplay disabled. I believe you have to hack your registry to actually disable that, it is not turned off by the autoplay settings in control panel, those only apply to Windows and not Media Center. So installing the internal to WMCE Power DVD player is much easier, if that is installed everything should just work.

Hi Andycob According to Cyberlink PowerDVD 16 does not support or integrate to WMC (15 did), so it would not be registered with WMC as a BD player. That should however not impact its use as an external player, given that it is properly supported in MM, in much the same way as say MPC-HC or VLC. BTW MPC-HC, if configured, with the latest LAV (68.1 and above) and Madvr will now play 3D frame packed BD rips (MVC/MKV's and .iso) in 3D on 3D TVs (HDMI 1.4a and above setups) .

Yeah the issue here comes from the OP's media being in an ISO, because a mounted disc (unlike a folder rip) is seen by Media Center in the same way as an inserted disc which means Media Center autoplays it (regardless of My Movies settings) and when it autoplays the disc it reports if doesn't have a player installed, which is understandable if PDVD 16 does not install one. If the media was a folder rip there would not be an issue.
My guess here is as I said above that the OP has disbabled Windows autoplay in control panel but those settings are not and do not affect Media Center's autoplay which is what needs to be disabled. That way the ISO will not be autoplayed by Media Center but opened in the set external player. The trouble is Microsoft don't make disabling Media Center's autoplay easy I believe you have to hack your registry to do it.

I have been trying to get powerdvd 16 to work in wmc for months now and I think it comes down to there not being a wmc plugin for powerdvd 16. I have tried registry hacks for wmc autoscan set to 0. No luck. This link might help. if anyone finds something that works please post it. DVD's work with powerdvd 16 in wmc but blurays don't. http://www.mymovies.dk/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=14663

You were right, I disabled the windows autoplay only. But now I also disabled the WMC autoplay using the MyMovies settings - still no success. It only removed the message of WMC about the missing player but PowerDVD is still not starting (I see the circling donut for some time and then it just disappears). I tried the same with a ripped MKV Blu-ray and surprisingly PowerDVD is playing the video. So it has something to do with the ISO. I'm using the latest Virtual CloneDrive 5.5.0.0. Maybe MyMovies is not recognizing the mounted ISO in "G:"?
Because PowerDVD 16 comes with it's own mounting driver I think Virtual CloneDrive is no longer needed. If we could just forward the ISO file to PowerDVD it should do all the needed stuff. Or is there any further registry fixing needed to turn of the WMC autoplay? I tried the suggested registry hacks of the linked thread but they didn't help in my case. And yes, version 16 of PowerDVD removed the WMC integration - so it has to be used as an external player.

If you are using wmc I believe you still need Virtual clone drive, or some other virtual drive. Cyberlink has a virtual drive with powertogo but I couldn't get that to work in wmc as well The problem is that there iis no powerdvd 16 plug in for wmc. I have dvd's playing with powerdvd 16 in wmc but not blueray iso files.

In general, ISO files are handled by autoplay by Windows Media Center, and the external player functionality is not created to handle ISO in that relation. PowerDVD 15 and prior had an integration into Windows Media Center, which PowerDVD 16 does not. Therefore, when using PowerDVD 16, Windows Media Center will tell that no player is integrated for Blu-ray and/or HD DVD. This means that you cannot use PowerDVD 16 with ISO files, except with big workaround on disabling autoplay and dvd playback all together in Windows Media Center, which is something we do not have public documentation on. That's sad news. I just renamed one of my ISO's to .mkv and tried to play that. PowerDVD is showing up and is playing "something" (looks like some trailers from the disc). If it's not possible to forward ISO's to PowerDVD I'll have to go back to version 15 instead. Hopefully it will play the latest Blu-rays for some time. But I also will give MPC-HC another try first. VLC also seems to play 3D Blu-rays now. We'll see. But sooner or later WMC is dying... ;-(
