If anyone is interested, I have programmed a new Media Center style GUI for My Movies. It is a stand-alone replacement for the Windows Media Center + My Movies plugin. It works on Windows 7, 8/8.1 and Windows 10, and does not require WMC. You can check it out here: Chameleon MediaCenter <--MM Browser has been renamed to Chameleon MediaCenter I just released MM Browser v1.2 which now includes DVD Folder support in addition to DVD/Blu-ray ISO's. I look forward to making it even better, so if you have any helpful suggestions let me know. Here are some quick tips for getting started:1) When you first start MM Browser, you will be presented with just the Gear (settings icon) and the X (exit icon). You need to start with the Gear icon. 2) Use your keyboard (or remote control), not a mouse. Use the Arrow Keys to navigate, and Enter/Return to select. <- Backspace to go back, and Esc to toggle a movie between Watched/Unwatched. If your keyboard has a Play button, you can use that to mount/play an ISO from the covers screen, otherwise you would have to select a title to open the FanArt details page, and select Play from there. 3) On the settings screen, the first thing you need to do is identify the folders to scan. For example, I have 3 folders: \\server\DVDs, \\server\Blu-Rays, and \\server\TV-Series. The should match up to the folders you configured in My Movies. 4) At this point you should be far enough along to 'Save' these settings, and then a new icon will show up, the Sync icon. 5) Run a Sync, and when it is done you will see all your titles (well, at least the DVD/Blu-Rays ISOs and DVD Folders, other file support coming soon). For full details on configuring MM Browser, see the How-To section on the website. this works pretty good. When you complete the "box set" functionality you will be really cooking. It is what I have been hoping Mymovies on windows 10 would do. I will buy it once I get some cash next Wednesday. After boxsets there is one function that you may not be aware of that I don't use. It is TV series. I don't use it but others will want it. Someone else who likes that functionality would need to help you, there. It essentially combines a TV series disks into separate items and you can jump into an episode on a disk. Very complicated. I highly recommend others to try this out and put in their 2 cents worth..

I was hoping the same thing too. I was frustrated because I kept thinking this should be a pretty easy thing to do. Finally I lost my patience and did it. Granted, it is harder for me than it would have been for Binnerup, simply because I don't have the indepth inside knowledge of how My Movies works. So if everyone will bear with me, I'll keep coding away until I get everything working. jkwaterman wrote:After boxsets there is one function that you may not be aware of that I don't use. I'm very interested in TV series too. It seems cool in concept, direct access to each episode. There's a whole guide on the My Movies website detailing requirements for setting this up. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think most of this only works with DVD, and not Blu-ray - or maybe there is an extra conversion step on Blu-rays. Almost all my TV episodes are Blu-ray stored as ISOs, and I don't think that is compatible with the TV Series feature at all. I'm not opposed to doing conversions, though. I think I will work on TV Series after Box Sets, which seems a bit less complicated to set up and are very similar to the multi-disc titles I am working on for you now. To complain for a sec, that Universal Classic Monsters collection of yours seems like the very definition of a Box Set, yet it is configured as a single-title multi-disc set. That was probably done by whoever originally contributed the data into My Movies. I think I can make it work either way, but the various ways that data can exist in My Movies is certainly challenging. I took a look at your website for this the other day. Very nice and I agree with jkwaterman. Once it supports the box set functionality you'll really be cooking. That's where My Movies reallly distinguishes itself from other front ends. Would be sweet if you were able to support offline titles as well though. Not everyone rips their DVD's and Blu-ray's to hard drives. My DVD/Blu-ray CollectionHome Theater Gallery

Hard to say when I'll be done, but pretty certain it will be this week. Not sure if that will be possible without the xml files, which (as far as I know) are only generated for ripped titles. For offline titles, I think My Movies has this covered with their web/app based approach. I'm thinking the next step after this is for TV series support, then converted file support (i.e. mk4, etc). Basically, I'm visualizing MM Browser as a 'media launcher' GUI for My Movies, and for offline titles there's nothing to launch. MM Browser v1.3 has just been released. v1.3 includes some very important fixes and added support for My Movies multi-disc Online File and Online Folders. v1.3 also has preliminary Box Set support, though I do have some significant updates for Box Sets I'm working on for the next version, so consider this a work in progress. If you tried an earlier version of MM Browser and you were left disappointed, I highly encourage you to try v1.3. If you tried an earlier version of MM Browser and you were left disappointed, I highly encourage you to try v1.3. Paul I have been testing this software for a week now. I suggest that when starting out that you heed the instructions on the first popup page about how to use the keyboard. Only keyboard and remote control keys are supported. Paul has a good how-to section on his MM_Browser website as well. If you have any questions contact Paul by responding here or via twitter. He is very responsive to questions and will add features that make sense. I also bought a license and found that the trial only displays 100 titles and doesn't show all the functionality the licensed version displays. I am very happy with this app and I feel that it is a complete replacement for WMC and I don't think I will use WMC again. This is the app I have been looking for since I upgraded to Windows 10. When using the remote control with MM_browser, go to the how-to section on the website for the remote control setup. He mentions an application download for updating the key which I did use. The remote control works great with this app and is very useful for a HTPC with a TV. I think PowerDVD is only supported right now and MM_Browser is a good companion with mymovies and PowerDVD. If you have any questions, I will be happy to help.

I just discovered MM Browser and was super excited as I have been looking for a WMC replacement for quite some time. I actually love WMC but we all know that situation and moving to Windows 10 has made that even more challenging. I have also purchased two Dunes but can't bring myself to like them.
I have over 1000 movies on my server (all online) and I installed the trial version (which only lets you see 100) and did a bit of testing but was limited by the count. I then purchased it and now I see 563 of the total. After a bit of digging it looks like all of my BlueRays are not showing up. After a bit more research I think it is because all of my BlueRays are burnt in M2TS format.
After reading this a bit closer it looks like maybe MM Browser only supports ISO for Blue Ray? Is that correct? If so, is there any chance of it supporting M2TS? PowerDVD plays it (that is how I play them in WMC) and the PowerDVD integration is already there.
Looks like an awesome product if I can get over this hurdle. I am very hopeful this can happen as I have been looking for something like MM Browser for several years.
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks,
Kevin Yes, I think it is limited to ISO fles and VIDEO_TS folders. Paul should be able to verify. By the way, MM_Browser does not have access to the MM database. MM_Browser uses the Mymovie metadata xml files on your storage drive where your video files are stored and creates a xml Database file from them. It also is a replacement for the Mymovie WMC extender. It is not a complete replacement for WMC meaning it does not completely replace all the WMC functionality. Only the mymovie extension of WMC. My titles are all Bluray ISOs and DVD video_TS files. It handles all my needs, but I used mymovies in a limited sense. If you use mymovie in a different way from me. I'm sure Paul can accommodate your needs in the future. Jamie

Thanks,
Kevin Hi Kevin, thanks for your support! The initial version only had ISO support (two short weeks ago) . To handle Jamie's collection, I added VIDEO_TS. I've said all along that I want to grow MMB to handle more formats, with priorities influenced by my users. So to support your collection, M2TS just moved to the top of my list. I will need your help, as I've never converted a Blu-ray to M2TS before. Please provide instructions on how I do this, and how you typically add it to My Movies. I want to be able to follow your process, so I can make MMB work for your data and methods. Please keep in mind that there may be technical hurdles to overcome, so until I understand more about M2TS, I can't give a timeline. Thanks! Paul,
Thanks a million for the prompt response. This will be a bit lengthy but I am hoping it might be helpful as I am guessing there are a ton of systems out there using M2TS. I say that as I started with multiple Vidabox systems and that was the default Blue-ray format for them. I have no idea how many of them they sold but it has to be in the thousands based on the serial numbers of my machines.
In order to store a file in this format, go to the MyMovies plugin and go to the Disc Copier tab. On that tab select BDMV as the Blue Ray and HD DVD format. Then burn as disc as normal and it will store it in M2TS format.
As I mentioned yesterday, I am super excited that you are doing this. I am also more than happy to provide feedback. Please never view it as me being negative though, I only want to help you make it better. I will also say you are sitting on a gold mine, there are a ton of WMC users out there looking for a supported solution. The latest Windows 10 OS update creates a ton of new WMC issues.
Thoughts and suggestions.
1. Your install documentation is awesome. I like the fact that it explains how to do things and just as important, why I am doing them.
2. Jamie touched on this in his response (thanks Jamie) and I caught it this morning as I spent a few more minutes with the product. Is there anyway you can read the MyMovies database instead of the XML files. One of several reasons this is important is so the movies sort in the same order as the user puts them in MyMovies. This is one of the many reasons I am not a fan of Dune. It would be awesome if you could have it read directly from MyMovies (my guess is this will be very important to WMC users).
3. What I have not been able to test (I can't see my Blue-Ray movies) is how it handles Blue-Ray menus. I don't know if it is WMC or PDVD that provides the capability but one of the awesome things about that solution is that it can handle multi level Blue-Ray menus. An example of the would be Game of Thrones where you select episodes and it can manage it's way through the menus. The original Dune could not do this, the new ones can but not nearly as well as WMC with PDVD.
I only found out about your product last night so I will provide additional input as I have a bit more time to test. Thanks again.

Never heard of Vidabox. I'm sure there's a ton of different systems out there (i.e. Popcorn), but I've never been attracted to them simply because they are so specialized. I like PC's because they can do it all (with the right software, of course). 1) Thanks. I hope to make the documentation even better over time. Plus, once MMB's features stabilize a bit, I want to create a few videos that step through getting things up and running. I'm also slowly working on making MMB easier to use, and by extension, reduce the need for some of the documentation. 2a) I think the easy answer to reading the DB is no. This is Binnerup's crown jewel, and I doubt that they would ever give direct access to the DB. Though they are welcome to prove me wrong. ;) 2b) As far as sorting titles, MMB should be able to replicate the same sort order you have in My Movies CM. Perhaps you have yet to try the different sort option (the Up/Down arrows on the menu bar). I'm guessing that sorting by Collection Number is what you are after. You can also assign your favorite sort option as the default sort on the settings page. 3) WMC, and MMB, don't play Blu-rays at all: both have to call an external program to play them. Unlike WMC which could handle some playback internally (i.e. DVDs), MMB requires an external player for all media. Currently, MMB only supports PowerDVD, though I fully expect to add support for other players as the community requests them. PowerDVD should handle playback of Blu-ray discs and menus the same when called by MMB as when you used it with WMC. Thanks for sharing the steps for making a M2TS. I have an additional request: Please share with me a screenshot of a folder with a M2TS inside of it. I'll send you an email so you can respond directly. MM Browser v1.4 has just been released. v1.4 adds support for Blu-ray folders (BDMV). Just like DVD Folders (VIDEO_TS), MM Browser will play these back with PowerDVD without the need to mount them first. v1.4 also includes improvements to the folder scanning logic, for both accuracy and for efficiency. There's also a good handful of bug fixes. MM Browser keeps getting better and better - have you tried it yet? I discovered MM Browser 2 days ago. When I first fired it up it only displayed about half of my collection. After some digging I found out it did not support the format my BlueRays are stored in. I posted the issue and the very next day Paul provided updated code that supports M2TS. The product now displays and plays my entire catalog. I was stunned at how fast he turned this over.
MM Browser also brought to my attention that I have a ton of metadata issues with my system. I found I had multiple copies of many movies, inaccurate disc pointers in several multi-disc movies, TV Series, etc. I have a bit of work ahead of me to clean it up but it is helping me resolve a bunch of issues I wasn't aware of.
So far things look really good. If you are looking for a replacement for WMC (I have been for several years), you should check out MM Browser. My gut tells me by the end of next week I will be completely migrated from WMC to MM Browser.

I had the same issues with my MM metadata. Was missing titles my MM CM. Don't know how that happened. Also bad, corrupted xml file and missing mymovies.xml files. I used the mm_browser log and had everything cleaned up in a few days. Everything works great. I haven't tested all the features of MM_Browser, but I like it and it is a great little app. Paul is very responsive to questions about MM_browser. Jamie

MM Browser v1.5 has just been released. v1.5 adds support for Box Sets. Each Box Set will display as a single title on the main cover screen, and selecting the title will open a 2nd screen where you can browse each title in the set. v1.5 introduces Smart Sync, which syncs your collection to My Movies by processing changes-only. Combined with the Smart Cache for the local artwork, the overall sync processing time is a magnitude faster. For example, on my collection a full sync of titles and artwork takes about 3 minutes, while the new changes-only Smart Sync + Smart Cache takes about 10 seconds. Jamie, who has graciously helped me test this new version, has seen his 10+ minute full sync drop to about 36 seconds for a changes only sync. Jamie's collection is huge, by the way, dwarfing mine. In both cases, we're seeing about an 18x improvement in sync speed. v1.5 also adds filtering by Media Type (Movie/TV Series/Music/Documentary/Other). There's also some bug fixes, and cosmetic improvements. MM Browser keeps getting better and better - have you tried it yet? MM Browser v1.6 has just been released. v1.6 adds a nice new feature called WatchLists, that lets you flag movies/shows for later watching. Very convenient. The biggest new feature in v1.6 is a brand new built-in tool to configure MCE compatible remote control buttons. Previously you had to download and use a complicated tool (Advanced MCE Remote Mapper) to configure your MCE remote. Now you can do it in just a few clicks. MM Browser will also automatically create the Start Menu program shortcut that links to the Launch button you configure (i.e. Windows Green Button). Speaking of remotes, v1.6 introduces several new buttons to make scrolling through covers faster. Channel Up/Down will scroll 1 screen (20 covers), FF/Rewind will scroll 3 screens (60 covers), and Replay/Skip will jump to the First/Last cover. Lastly, there have been several changes to improve the "first-time user" experience, and get you up and running quicker. These include help/tutorial screens, improved Settings clarity, and optimized default application behavior. There's also a few bug fixes and cosmetic improvements. Big thanks to the many users who helped test the v1.6 betas to make this the best release ever. For those wondering, episode support is still a work in progress and isn't ready yet, though the outlook is good. MM Browser keeps getting better and easier to use - have you tried it yet? I want to ask for some more detail on 'Pre-Installation Requirements':
Tools > Settings > Meta-data > 'Clean stored Meta-Data files from a folder and sub-folders' Tools > Settings > Meta-data > 'Update stored Meta-Data files for all titles in database'
Are these two steps best performed on the MyMovies "server"?
Thanks,
Doug

This is not done by MM_Browser. It is done in the MyMovies Collection Management tool, usually on the server. MM_Browser uses the metadata from mymovies to create it's own DB of titles. I have found that the metadata can be corrupted, encrypted, or even missing. I have found that was the case when I first started using MM_Browser. The clean should be done on the NAS or disk folders where your movie titles are stored. It is also recommended that you clean and update all the movie metadata before syncing with MM_Browser so that you start with a clean slate. The metadata must be kept with the movie titles or folder, "ISO, VIDEO_TS, mp4 files.....", so that MM_Browser can find all the data pertaining to that title. Jamie

Thanks Jamie! To be fair, corrupted xml files are exceedingly rare, and probably not really an issue. 'Old', on the other hand, is quite common. Since MM Browser is programmed to read the current xml file format, any old files that use a different format will appear 'corrupted' to MM Browser, when in fact they are not actually corrupted, just old. Incompatible would probably be a better term, though if by chance a file was corrupted, it would behave the same as the old incompatible files, so I just report on them the same way. While Jamie makes an excellent point on cleaning up your metadata before syncing with MM Browser, chances are everyone syncs first only to find they have metadata issues. It is easy to get back to a clean slate by simply selecting "Remove 'MMB_SmartSync.bin' to Force a Full DB Sync" on the Settings panel, which essentially makes MM Browser start over from scratch to build the local database. Be sure to review the Sync Error Report in the Logs folder, as that will give you a 'hitlist' of everything that MM Browser finds that is wrong with the metadata (which 99% of the time is just old metadata files that need a forced update). This will show if a xml file is bad (i.e. old format), encrypted, or missing. The next version, coming soon, will also report on empty box sets, something Jamie found in his collection. Good luck Doug, and let us know if you have more questions or run into trouble.
