V5.25pr5, AnyDVD* 8.3.8.7, Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Log attached.

Canadian Fury 043396539181 is AACS 2.1, and not supported by AnyDVD*, yet. But, I've been able to read disc ID of unsupported UHD discs with past versions of Collection Management, no problems.

Procedure that generated the log file:

1. I started logging with Fury UHD disc inserted already, and then I EXITED AnyDVD* and tried to read the disc ID with MyMovies. I get 'The Disc ID could not be read from the disc.'
2. Leaving the Assign Discs window up, I restarted AnyDVD* and tried to read the disc ID, same result.
3. Ejected Fury. Canceled Assign Discs window.
4. Inserted Interstellar UHD Canadian 032429300485 (AnyDVD* is running)
5. Collection Management reads disc ID and switches to show Interstellar UHD title.
6. Select Fury again.
7. Exit AnyDVD*, which should make Collection Management re-read the disc ID. Nothing happens. CM does not switch to showing Interstellar.
8. Select Interstellar, open Assign Discs, try to read disc ID for the 4K Ultra HD disc. I get 'The Disc ID could not be read from the disc.'

Two things wrong, I think:

1. Something's not right when reading disc IDs if AnyDVD* is installed but not running. [Edit: this is true for Blu-ray and UHD discs] Collection Management cannot read a disc ID in this circumstance.
2. Can't read disc ID if AnyDVD* is running but the disc is not supported, which only happens normally for unsupported UHD discs.

Ok, this is a situation I need to consider a bit how to handle, because as the software sees AnyDVD* being enabled from the drive, and reads the disc id from it - however, AnyDVD* is not presenting it.

If we go back to reading from the file system, there is a risk that this can be a user running a version of AnyDVD* from before this disc id reading was available.

I am considering the approach.

Can you check one thing for me?

When the disc is not handled like this - you have the AACS folder on the disk, but no SKY!, ANY!, ect. folder?

And, can you attach a log where you ONLY are reading one id at a time?

I would like one where you disable AnyDVD* and attempt to read.

For sure, yes, just checked that if I have AnyDVD* (8.3.8.7) installed I get the following 5 situations with Blu-ray and UHD discs:

1. EXITED AnyDVD* or DISABLED AnyDVD* for the drive, there is no SKY!, ANY! or similar folder visible for a Blu-ray or UHD disc in Windows Explorer.
2. AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) Blu-ray disc with AACS protection removed always shows ANY! folder.
3. AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) Blu-ray disc WITHOUT AACS protection shows NO AACS folder and NO ANY! folder.
4. AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) and UHD supported by AnyDVD* disc has ANY! folder.
5. AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) and UHD NOT supported by AnyDVD* has AACS folder and not ANY!, SKY! or other folder.

As I see it, if AnyDVD* is installed AND Collection Management doesn't find the ANY! folder on the disc, then there are the following two possibilities for Blu-ray or UHD discs:
1. AACS folder is NOT found: the Blu-ray or UHD disc has no AACS protection. (Burn on Demand disc, for example)
2. AACS folder is found: AnyDVD* is not running, AnyDVD* is disabled for the drive, or AnyDVD* cannot decrypt UHD disc

AnyDVD* not running and AnyDVD* disabled for the drive give identical "symptoms". Is there some way in registry to find out if AnyDVD* is enabled or disabled for a drive? Any way to detect if AnyDVD* is running?

For commercial UHD discs I think there will always be an AACS folder, so if the disc is UHD and there's no ANY! folder, then AnyDVD* doesn't yet support it.

Log file attached for inserting just one disc into my drive O: with AnyDVD* installed but NOT running. I used a Blu-ray disc with AACS, In the Aftermath (USA 760137288183).

Process:

1. with MMCM debug disabled, select and display a Blu-ray title (not 'In the Aftermath').
2. Exit AnyDVD*
3. Enable MMCM debug.
4. Insert 'In the Aftermath' Blu-ray disc to drive O:
5. Observe contents of log.txt for a minute or two, to note that MMCM is idle.
6. Select 'In the Aftermath' title in MMCM.
7. Open 'Assign Discs' dialog and attempt to read disc ID from drive O:
8. close 'Assign Discs' dialog after failure to read disc ID.
9. wait a couple of minutes and disable MMCM debug.
10. wait a couple of minutes and attach log.txt to this message.

How will you handle disc ID for an 'unprotected' backup ISO, made using old versions of AnyDVD*, that is mounted in a virtual drive?

I've got several thousand Blu-ray backup ISOs made with older versions of AnyDVD* going back to the SlySoft days. I'm sure I'm not the only one!

The normal configuration for AnyDVD* in such a case is to disable AnyDVD* for the virtual drive.

There will be no AACS folder, and there will be an ANY! directory. The special disc ID information provided by the newest AnyDVD* will NOT be available. So what do you do with it when one of these ISOs is mounted in the virtual drive?

I picked one at random, created in 2012, Titanic 3D disc 1 (Canada 097361468266), and mounted it. With or without the latest version of AnyDVD* running, Collection Management does not generate a disc ID for this mounted unprotected backup ISO, and so the title is not automatically selected.

Is this the intended behaviour for My Movies from now on?

Cheers,

--michael

Thanks, got the download, and I do realize this is not necessarily the 'final' PR6 release.

I must wait until Saturday before I can get back to this; my day tomorrow (Friday) is fully booked, and my tinkering time here in the EDT time zone is over. Now is family time.

Cheers,

I installed the new version of v5.25pr6, and had AnyDVD* 8.3.9.0 loaded and running. I had a known good Blu-ray inserted in drive L:

I started Collection Management with debug ON.

After Collection Management had started and it found the disc and selected the correct title (Rudolph Valentino Collection Volume 2), I removed the Blu-ray from drive L: and I replaced it with my UHD disc of John Wick 3: Parabellum, which is NOT supported yet by AnyDVD*.

Collection Management did not automatically change focus to the John Wick 3 title.

Then I selected the John Wick 3 title and opened the Assign Discs dialog and attempted to read the disc ID on drive L:.

I get 'The Disc ID could not be read from the disc.'

Log file attached.

I installed the new version of v5.25pr7 this morning around 10:30am EDT, and had AnyDVD** 8.3.9.0 loaded and running. I forgot that Debug would be on by default. I did not start Collection Management running.

Just after 3pm I made sure there were no discs inserted, and inserted John Wick 3 into drive N:. My version of John Wick 3 is still not supported by AnyDVD*.

I waited until AnyDVD* complained about not supporting the disc. Then I started Collection Management.

After Collection Management had started it read the disc ID and Collection Management automatically changed focus to the John Wick 3 title.

After I stopped Debug I also tried mounting an unprotected backup copy of a Blu-ray that was made back in 2011, a backup of the movie '9'. Collection Management correctly changed focus to the title for that movie.

The changes made in PR7 seem to have addressed the issues with disc ID for AnyDVD* and Blu-ray/UHD supported discs, unsupported discs, and older unprotected backup disc images.
