For sure, yes, just checked that if I have
AnyDVD* (8.3.8.7) installed I get the following 5 situations with Blu-ray and UHD discs:
1. EXITED
AnyDVD* or DISABLED
AnyDVD* for the drive, there is no SKY!, ANY! or similar folder visible for a Blu-ray or UHD disc in Windows Explorer.
2.
AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) Blu-ray disc with AACS protection removed always shows ANY! folder.
3.
AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) Blu-ray disc WITHOUT AACS protection shows NO AACS folder and NO ANY! folder.
4.
AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) and UHD supported by
AnyDVD* disc has ANY! folder.
5.
AnyDVD* running (not exited or disabled for the drive) and UHD NOT supported by
AnyDVD* has AACS folder and not ANY!, SKY! or other folder.
As I see it, if
AnyDVD* is installed AND Collection Management doesn't find the ANY! folder on the disc, then there are the following two possibilities for Blu-ray or UHD discs:
1. AACS folder is NOT found: the Blu-ray or UHD disc has no AACS protection. (Burn on Demand disc, for example)
2. AACS folder is found:
AnyDVD* is not running,
AnyDVD* is disabled for the drive, or
AnyDVD* cannot decrypt UHD disc
AnyDVD* not running and
AnyDVD* disabled for the drive give identical "symptoms". Is there some way in registry to find out if
AnyDVD* is enabled or disabled for a drive? Any way to detect if
AnyDVD* is running?
For commercial UHD discs I think there will always be an AACS folder, so if the disc is UHD and there's no ANY! folder, then
AnyDVD* doesn't yet support it.
Log file attached for inserting just one disc into my drive O: with
AnyDVD* installed but NOT running. I used a Blu-ray disc with AACS, In the Aftermath (USA 760137288183).
Process:
1. with MMCM debug disabled, select and display a Blu-ray title (not 'In the Aftermath').
2. Exit
AnyDVD*
3. Enable MMCM debug.
4. Insert 'In the Aftermath' Blu-ray disc to drive O:
5. Observe contents of log.txt for a minute or two, to note that MMCM is idle.
6. Select 'In the Aftermath' title in MMCM.
7. Open 'Assign Discs' dialog and attempt to read disc ID from drive O:
8. close 'Assign Discs' dialog after failure to read disc ID.
9. wait a couple of minutes and disable MMCM debug.
10. wait a couple of minutes and attach log.txt to this message.
