I have a very large database and, you may recall, have had performance problems since version 5.00 build 4. Given the depreciation in support for that version (which I completely understand) I thought I'd give 5.25 a shot. I even went so far in my thinking that I might be able to split the database.

Set up a new 2012 R2 VM machine from scratch, installed 5.25, imported the database and set up the 5.25 client on a spare machine and .... search performance is as good as it was in 5.00.

If you can think of anything that might be the cause of this I would encourage you to retain it if at all possible.
