I would consider this a bug since it forces erroneous data entry, but you might consider it a feature request.
MyMovies requests that we make sure we are entering the correct person if there is any name ambiguity, but then prohibits us from actually entering the correct disambiguated person and forces us to enter the wrong person. Case in point: In "Ride with the Devil" (IMDB-ID tt0134154), the Art Director is named "Steve Arnold". (See screen shot DisambiguatingCreditNames3.jpg) There are many people in IMDB named "Steve Arnold" (I count 24 of them), so which one do we enter? (See screen shot DisambiguatingCreditNames5.jpg) If you click through the IMDB link in the Art Director credit for "Steve Arnold", it shows an IMDB Name ID of "nm0004140" with a display name of "Steve Arnold (II)" (See screen shot DisambiguatingCreditNames4.jpg)
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004140/By requiring us to enter just "Steve Arnold", you are forcing us to likely attribute the credit to the wrong person. No matter whether they are an Actor (one of many different Actors by the name), a Director, a Cinematographer, etc. All of them will be lumped under the name entry in the MyMovies database. The only way you can really disambiguate this is to allow us to enter an IMDB Name ID, so you can do a direct lookup in IMDB and you can retrieve the right one. Similarly, you should probably allow us to be able to somehow *see* the IMDB Name ID as associated in MyMovies so that *we* can tell whether we are selecting the right one.
Anyway, this is undoubtedly a can of worms to untangle. Just thought I'd document what I've found, and maybe make a plea for re-instating the parenthesized iteration (e.g. "Steve Arnold (II)" from the example above) in the meantime, so that we can better disentangle it later.
