Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with copying movies and the My Movies Tray.exe application crashes regularly whilst inserting DVDs to copy. This wasn't evident initially, but when I realised that the My Movies interface wouldn't provide information on a movie, I noticed the My Movies Tray.exe application had crashed in the background.

I am running a "pretty" vanilla build (with latest MS hotfixes) and latest AnyDVD* HD (trial). I am currently testing on a bunch of DVDs I am archiving from the home collection. The ones that have had issues to date -- mainly include the Special Edition boxset of LOTR (2 Disc Movie) -- not sure if this is related to the issue. FYI, copying via Collection Manager works fine -- but I'd prefer to use the 10 foot UI instead to save plugging a K+M into my HTPC. Whilst talking about multi-disc movies, can you manage this via the 10 Foot UI or do you have to collate via the Collection Manager application -- which is the way I have done to date.

Any similar issues seen before?

Thanks for your time.

3. Are you on a X86 or X64 version of Windows, or is this a extender (if so which one)?

x64 and Xbox 360 Extender (x2)

4. What versions of .NET Framework do you have installed (Just because you have 2.0 does not mean you do not need 1.1, they run side/by/side)?

v3.0
v3.5

5. What security software suite do you have installed (Zone Alarm, McAfee, Symantec, One Care, etc.)?

None (Dedicated HTPC)

I'm having the same issue, I just noticed that whenever I insert a DVD (doesn't matter if I intend to copy or just play it,.. it happens before doing anything else) the mymovies tray application crashes. I'm running a fully licensed version of AnyDVD*HD on Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit.

This is interesting, I apparently don't have .Net framework installed at all (isn't this a requirement to run MyMovies at all?). Or does it just not appear in the 'programs and features' applet anymore?
EDIT! Ok, I see it's now listed under 'Windows features' and is 3.51

5. What security software suite do you have installed (Zone Alarm, McAfee, Symantec, One Care, etc.)?

AVG

Weather Media Center is running or not, when you place a DVD into the drive and load it, the MyMovies tray.exe crashes with this error:

I also just noticed that it doesn't matter if 'display disc insert notifications' is turned on or not.

Does it make a difference if AnyDVD* is closed or opened?

Yep, it does. I just tried it twice with AnyDVD* on and off and with it on it crashes, with it off it doesn't.

I am glad I am not alone with this problem -- thanks community.

Can you screendump how it looks, so that I can see what part it is?

Brian,

Well I can't provide screen dump ATM (at work), but if you insert a DVD (I can duplicate with LOTR - ROTK SEE), then forcefully kill the My Movies Tray.exe application, whilst the MediaCenter UI is running, and switch to the MyMovies interface -- you will notice the top left hand item (which shows the current inserted DVD) will display on the the DVD Label of the disk. Generally if the My Movies App.exe was running correctly, after a few seconds (it should, from my experiences) auto-populate after it has contacted your remote Web Service.

I can also confirm with Windows 7 x64...

When playing ISO DVD via Windows 7 MCE to TMC3 the my movies tray crashes.

When playing ISO DVD via Windows 7 MCE itself it works fine no crashes of Tray.

Pretty much 99% of the time.

I don't use the copy feature of My Movies as I create ISO's with Anydvd HD only.

EDIT:

Just re-read the forum post and replies, seems AnyDVD* is the cause?? But funny how for me it is related to TMC3. Will close AnyDVD* next time and try again.

First of all, I think we have a thread of mixed issues here.

Some talk of a crash in Tray when inserting a disc, some talk about it in Media Center.

I would like that we here focus on only an issue where you have a crash in the Tray when inserting a disc, if AnyDVD* is enabled, and Media Center is closed.

Other issues, please post in a seperate thread.

I would like first of all to know if users with this specific problems have had any of the My Movies 3 pre releases installed?

Tray.exe has "not" crashed for me whilst inserting discs without MediaCenter running (i.e using Collection Manager -- this is my current workaround for the problem) -- "only" whilst MediaCenter is running (which was my original request). My HTPC is a brand new OS build, no previous releases of MM has been installed, no restoration of MM3 SQL DB. The only remanents of previous builds would have been *.xml files (from MM2) stored within existing movie directories -- I can remove these if required.

I'm also seeing this crash when I insert a DVD and AnyDVD* is enabled, but I'm running Vista x64. Is this still relevant to this thread? However, I'm not sure exactly what constitutes "running media center". I don't have the UI running, but there are a couple other processes "ehmsas.exe" and "ehtray.exe" that I believe belong to media center...does that count?

Thought I would add to this. My Windows 7 Ultimate x64 rig loves to APPCRASH the My Movies Tray right after startup ONLY if AnyDVD* is loaded as well. If I don't have AnyDVD* load at startup, the My Movies Tray stays running no crash or issue. I just loaded both My Movies 3.03 and AnyDVD* 6.6.0.0 so I'm not sure what it could be. Its not exactly as described above, but is similar so I wanted to toss the info I had in here.

*EDIT*

I spoke too soon, if I fire up AnyDVD* with a disk in the drive it will crash the My Movies Tray after a minute or so (maybe after its done scanning the disk).

Hi Brian,

It is apparent that others are also having issues with the x64 MyMovies build and the Tray application failing when AnyDVD* is running. Does anyone else have the same problem?
