I found good instructions on how to make your own custom intros using the Blender which is a free 3D rendering application. There is a good instruction video and blender files to create a custom universal type of intro. I also included the blender files for a Fox Style intro as well. Google Blender to get the rendering application. I also use the DTS Digital Theater intro and you can find that also by googling it. In MM I use the trailers configuration to play the two intros (Fox Type Intro and DTS Intro) which I have setup to play Alphabetically and the intro configuration to play the trailers and I have set to 1 and Random. This gives me 1 trailer, Fox Style Intro, DTS Intro, and then the movie. I use a program I wrote to download new trailers so I know what is coming out in theaters and it can be downloaded from http://www.mymovies.dk/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=16174. I can not upload the video but you can download it from http://www.backyardtheater.com/forums/index.php?topic=2034.0File Attachment(s):
20th century fox blender files.zip (3,075kb) downloaded 1,321 time(s).
custom_universal_original.zip (2,278kb) downloaded 1,613 time(s).

Tx for the tips! it's been very useful. regarding your program to download itunes trailers: any chance you can adapt it to put each trailer in its own folder with as folder name the name of the movie?

Tx ravenhawk. will try it out this evening when home. for my understanding, if a PC has a multiple user accounts and the application has been installed under one particular user account, will it still download the trailers at the timing as set in settings, even if the PC is by then active with a different user account?

Wow! I love the custom intros! I went through the Universal walk-thru last night and made a beautiful, HD custom intro for my HTPC. Thanks for the link and info! Now I want to do the Fox and Disney ones, too. Any good links for a "Please silence your cell phones" intro?

If you don't mind me asking, do your intros play back in Digital? If so, what format are they in? I have tried putting my DD intro, which is in VOB format into my intros directory but it won't play it. If I convert it to WMV, I loose the DD. Any tips appreciated.

Use VideoRedo or similar program to change the VOB into MPG or DVR-MS. Either of those should play fine and keep the audio and video intact.

It is installed for all users so it should not matter who logs in.

Thanks, Binnerup, for the intro option! I have created custom intros using The Fox and the Universal/Deathstar Blender files. Way awesome! With my trivia screensaver I made, and now these intros, I have a full real live theater experience. Has anyone tried using multiple intros with the random setting? I get the same intro every time. All the time. Just wondering what others are experiencing.

What I had to do to make mine work correctly is switch the Intro and trailer so that the Intro folder is pointing to the trailers folder and the trailers pointing to the intro folder. Then set the trailers to alpha and name your intros in the order you want them. e.g. Intro1.mpg and Intro2.mpg. Now under the Intro setting, set that to random. Mine will play in order, one random trailer, Fox Intro, DTS Intro, movie.

I think random intro play only plays one intro. set it to alphabetic and you should be fine.

To clarify, I have 3 different intros I have created, and only want to play one intro each time I start a Movie. However, to me, random would mean it would randomly choose one of the intro files each time a movie starts. I guess I see what you guys are saying, I just wanted it to randomize which intro would play every time I choose a movie, instead of the same intro every time. Make any sense? Maybe I'll just have to choose my favorite intro. Either way, the intro feature rocks!

I only use the intro part with playing 1 random. I have a couple to choose from and it works. I did notice that the same one kept getting selected so perhaps the random function should be looked at to improve? Perhaps remember the last played intro and if it still exists remove it from the selection? A user setting of course so it works on extenders too without excluding anything that isn't watched...

Yes, I find the same thing with random. It is no where close to random. I have four intros, one gets played about 70% of the time, another about 20% and a third one about 10% of the time. The fourth intro, I have yet to see played!

Cool, so it's not just me! I have 3 intros now, The 20th Century Fox, Universal, and Death Star blender intros, which I added a DTS clip and a dolby clip in Movie Maker, then saved a finished intro as an AVI. But So far after about 10 viewings, it's the same intro every time. I renamed each file with a unique name, starting with different letters, but still get the same one. And If I try alphabetical, it plays all 3 in a row. maybe it'll get worked out, until then, I guess I'll choose my favorite and be done.

I have tried this many more than 10 times with the results I mentioned above. Incidentally, I am doing the same intro styles as you, with the addition of the disney. I have a Death Star intro rendered, but have not found music to put to it. Do you have any links for appropriate music?
