I have recently added a drive to my WHS and now I get timeouts while transcoding is starting up & playing through my Xbox 360. I am wondering if there is a way to increase the timeout or buffer size to handle this as if it successfully starts up then it will work just fine.
My setup is WHS -> Win 7 with Media Center -> Xbox 360
In my setup I added a 5900 RPM 2 TB Barracuda LP drive & that is when I noticed this problem. I assume that it is because of this. One other difference is that this SATA drive runs through a SATA card vs. the other drives plug in directly to the motherboard.
Another possible feature is to enable some kind of buffer locally to speed it up.

In my case I believe it makes sense because I am mounting an iso with Virtual CloneDrive and need the extra time for the disk image to be mounted and be discovered.. it works fine for smaller disk images <= 5GB but larger ones timeout every time.. I'm comfortable changing registry keys or anything else I would need to in order to get this to work.. Thanks (Gigabit network, Xbox 360 extenders, most recent MyMovies and VirtualCloneDrive versions (just downloaded them tonight), Win7 Ultimate x64, all patches current, dedicated Windows Media Center machine: Intel Core i5-660 Clarkdale 3.33GHz & 4GB RAM, SSD main drive, iso files are on RAID 5 array of SATA III drives)

I really doubt this would make a difference for you... Thanks for the reply.. I agree now that the timeout is not the issue. All right.. after a bunch of troubleshooting this morning I determined what is going on.. I use SlySoft tools to create my iso files. Some of the rips include a .dvd file in addition to the .iso.. this .dvd file is text and contains 2 lines: LayerBreak=####### movie file.iso All movies play fine from the media center PC even if they have the .dvd file present (or not).. It seems like streaming might be trying to stream the .dvd file instead of the .iso file. If I move the .dvd file to a different folder outside my media folder path the movie will play through the extender.. I haven't tested this enough yet to determine if there will be any issues when the movie gets to the layer break point.. Are there any side effects you know of from removing the .dvd files? Thanks

It seems like my library is a bit messed up now.. It must have been pointing to the .dvd files as the movie.. when I went to collection management it decided that a whole bunch of my titles have been removed.. I tried moving the iso files to a different path then deleting all the MyMovie files and then moving the folders with the iso files back to where it would be autodetected.. Most of them showed back up.. there are a handful which were detected but still always show as offline now.. Is there a better resolution for the .dvd not working when transcoding to Xbox issue?

binnerup wrote:Are you pointing directly to the ".dvd" and "Online File" option, or are you pointing to the folder containing both the ISO and the .DVD? I have been just using the automatic folder discovery.. I move my folders which contain a .iso and maybe a .dvd file to a Media Center referenced media folder and soon after MyMovies detects it.. When I review the settings in Collection Management it is all folder based.. I was planning to experiment with using file based references with the reference pointed to the .iso.. I’ll post back once I have some more information..

I’ll post back once I have some more information.. Ok.. I went through my entire library and set file locations for each movie selecting the ISO files and now everything seems to be working.. Thanks for the assistance.. Do you think in the future that the folder detection will be able to handle this scenario without manual intervention?

One more thing.. I updated all the iso locations manually but left folder autodetection on.. I just hit refresh and it duplicated every one of my movies.. not too hard to fix but if someone is following in my footsteps here it would be a good idea to turn off the folder detection first.
