Do you have any plans to intergrate the current media player for Windows 8 to be able to play Mymovies? I understand that the Collection Management portion works I only have the 1 PC and wanted to decide wheather or not to upgrade.
Thank you

There are a few major issues with Windows 8 in relation with MyMovies that I haven't been able to resolve yet. I am testing the RTM (Pro x64) as I am a Technet subscriber. Here they are:
- The first one is only an issue for Technet/MSDN subscribers, but MCE is not included in any of the available versions, it will be optional in the pro version, but there is no license available for the MCE package and you can't buy it either. I t will only be available on public release in October, and in fact will be free until January 2013. That's a BIG problem as it means RTM can't be tested with MCE until October 26. The old release preview key for MCE doesn't work by the way. - On RTM, there is a native support for ISOs which makes VCD incompatible. Unfortunately, the native support doesn't work with bluray ISOs. You can see the content, but the disk doesn't play with TMT5 (latest). Unless there is a way to disable native ISO support and use VCD (which I haven't found yet), this is likely to be a major issue with MyMovies. I've heard that Daemon might work, so I'm going to test this, but this is something to watch. - The last one is less of a big issue but for a strange reason I can't post in the MyMovies Forum with IE10! Once I log in, I'm back to the main forum list, and if I chose one forum I appear as being logged out! Very weird. Using IE9 with Win7x64 works fine as usual.

The licensing issue with WMC being part of the RTM is also our big problem right now - we are unable to check things on the final release. I agree that the ISO mounting could be an issue - it is however recommend to run with BDMV folders over ISO files anyways - especially with ArcSoft's latest update, where we can send this directly to the player, and it bypasses it's drive selection screen, making it much faster to start. If you can browse the Blu-ray ISO's without problems, I would expect ArcSoft could resolve the issue in their end - otherwise, don't you think that SlySoft is able to make VCD compatible with Windows 8? The browser issue on the forums is something we have heard, but we wanted to wait for the RTM to look at it - since the forum is a customized third party forum, it takes quite some time for us to resolve things in it, but since the issue is also in RTM, we surely have no choice. Hi Brian. Please let us know if you find a solution with testing MCE on RTM. In a technet thread, Sinofsky himself aknowledged the issue but offered no solution, which was very weird (see here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/w8itprogeneral/thread/2bf01b04-5a9b-4d40-9354-f0afcc0e675c Sinofsky's answer is towards the end). BDMV is not a solution for three reasons: 1) BDMV support has been disabled in the past with PDVD under the Studios pressure, the same could happen with TMT 2) I would have to convert 1000 BD ISOs (that's the biggest problem!) 3) 3D BDs have to be ISOs or they take twice as much space if you convert them to BDMV. That's a BIG waste of space. I'm not sure the issue is with Arcsoft re native ISO mounting. It could be a way to prevent playing of BD ISOs right in the kernel, if this is deemed "illegal" by the powers that be. In that case it would have to be disabled and a third party would be needed. Need to do more testing on this. Yes I'm hoping Slysoft will release an update, but James seemed to think it was working fine, so I posted a request in the Slysoft forums. Good to hear you're on the case for the forum bug! PS: did you receive my log and messages on Skype re the other thread? 1) The fact that PowerDVD re-add the option, I strongly doubt this would be the situation. 2) Indeed. You need to hope for ArcSoft or SlySoft to resolve the issue, or stick with Windows 7. There are not much reason for upgrading anyways. 3) I was not aware of that. I have received your log, yes, it however does not tell anything. I will try contacting you to test the issue further. I have received your log, yes, it however does not tell anything. I will try contacting you to test the issue further. Thanks Brian. If, in a moment of pure madness, I decided to convert all my BD ISOs, what would be the folder structure, especially with titles with more than one disc? I did a few tests and wasn't fully happy with the results. With ISOs, I have the following structure: Movietitle (folder), then ISO direct if there is only one disc, otherwise disc1, disc2 folders etc with the ISO inside. So with Gladiator we would have: Gladiator (folder) then disc1 (folder for movie) and disc2 (folder for extras) With BDMV, do you have to have subfolders (disc1) even if there is onlly one disc? Or is the metadata info with the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders in the title folder? I agree there is not much reason for upgrading re new MCE features, but the OS itself is much improved (startup/shutdown time, file copy features and performance, etc) so if you use your HTPC for other tasks it can be a worthy update. binnerup wrote:Folder monitoring cannot handle multi-disc structures - you would need to handle these yourself. Thanks. FM does work better with ISOs than with BDMVs, at least the last time I tried, which is another reason why I stuck with ISOs. Supposing I handle multi-discs manually, what is the recommended folder structure for multi-disc BDMVs? binnerup wrote:Folder monitoring will btw also not work with your ISO's.
If you do this:
FolderName\ISO1.ISO FolderName\ISO2.ISO
It will add the folder "FolderName" only, but still only one disc pointing to "FolderName". Yes, but that's fine by me, I just have to add the path to the second disc when I check/update the title once it is added. With BDMVs, it was more messy but I wasn't using the folder structure you recommend, so I'll give it another try. Just to confirm that Daemon Tools (which has beta support for Windows 8) works fine in Win8 Pro x64. You can double click on BD ISOs and they are automatically mounted in the MS virtual drive, which is converted into a Daemon drive. The mounted ISO then plays in TMT or PDVD without any issue. Whether that will work smoothly with MCE, we'll have to wait, but at least it seems there is a solution until Slysoft updates VCD.
So the ISO issue isn't TMT or PDVD related, but VCD (and MS re native support) related. Unless they would like their software to work with the Win 8 native support of course, in which case they might have to change a few things to make it work.
