Hi, as a fairly new user I've now added some titles. Most of these were titles I added to incomplete box sets, but also a few totally new titles from old obscure DVDs. I'm on the latest version of MM on Windows 11.

While I always made the same steps in my process of adding titles, I get different results:

1. When I add a new title (disc), the corresponding film sub-file is created automatically, all cast and crew data is retrieved
2. When I add a title, the film file is not automatically created, but cast and crew data is automatically retrieved nonetheless
3. The corresponding film file is not created, and no cast and crew data is retrieved

In all three cases I had added the imdb ID, it's saved in the title file, and if i click on It the correct film opens in my browser over at IMDB. So the IMDb IDs are definitely correct. I can see absolutely no difference in title files I created that worked and those that didn't work.

When I try to search for the title via the imdb pop-up in MM I always get a SearchTitle Error. That one never worked once for me so far.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Is there a workaround?

Thank you very much.

First simple advice: the IMDB pop-up search is broken. Please enter the IMDB ID instead of the name of the movie and you will get the information you want.

It is the users of My Movies that create Movies (film sub-file) containing cast, crew, description, etc.

If someone has created a Movie for the IMDB ID used in a disc title, then My Movies will automatically download the Movie and attach it to your disc title as soon as you have IMDB ID in the disc title and save it.

If no one has created a Movie for an IMDB ID, and you create a new disc title with that IMDB ID or get a disc title from My Movies with that ID, there will not be any Movie (film sub-file) attached to the disc title.

If your disc title does not have a Movie attached, you can create one and eventually contribute it to My Movies (and get points) by right-clicking on the disc title in the list, and choosing Create Movie. A movie with most fields empty but containing IMDB ID and your local language name of the movie will be created. In version 5.40 of My Movies, you will have to save the disc title to see the attached Movie (film sub-file). I don't know if version 5.41 does that differently or not. You can copy and paste Cast list or Crew list using the buttons under the cast and crew lists in the disc title and Movie form. Unfortunately the Movie form doesn't allow you to use IMDB to populate the Cast and Crew lists so you'll have to switch back and forth and save the Movie each time. When you've put enough data into the Movie, you can contribute it to the My Movies service, and then you can use the Inherit Cast & Crew from Movie checkbox in the disc title.

I hope that helps? I will check back tomorrow or later tonight to see if you have any more questions or if I've added confusion.

Cheers,

Where should I enter the IMDb ID to get the info I want? In the pop-up search I get the SearchTitle Exception every time, whether i enter the title or the IMDb ID. Both in the disc file as well as in the newly created film file.

Thanks again.

We (that's everyone who might be reading this thread, including me) need a bit more information.

Which version of My Movies are you using?

Please capture a screen shot, and attach it to your reply, of the pop-up search not working when you enter IMDB ID. It would be good if you could capture the whole My Movies window including the pop-up, so we have enough context to know what process you are using. That helps us replicate your process. Our answers, suggestions, or corrections will be more accurate.

Thanks,

Sorry, I should have thought of this possible source of trouble that popped up back in 2021.

Please take a look at your C:\ProgramData\My Movies\DataProviders folder. View the folder with Details, to see the date stamp on the IMDB.com.NET2.0.dll file. Is it from earlier than 2021?

If your version of this DLL file is older than 2021, please take a look at this My Movies forum thread: https://www.mymovies.dk/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=46641

Binnerup's second post to that thread has a download link for a newer (2021) version of the IMDB DLL file. Please follow his instructions in that post very carefully, especially the UNBLOCKING instruction. Note that you should exit the My Movies Collection Management program first before replacing the DLL file.

When you've replaced the file and made sure it's unblocked, you can restart My Movies and you should be able to search using IMDB IDs. Searching by movie names remains broken.

The IMDB DLL file is from January 13, 2021. I'm running version 5.40 on Windows 10 (11 was a typo above, sorry).

Attached you'll find three screenshots. The Actors import IMDB popup, the general IMDB import on disc level, and the general IMDB import on film level. I hope this helps.

Thank you!

File Attachment(s):
MM.jpg (282kb) downloaded 15 time(s).
MM2.jpg (289kb) downloaded 13 time(s).
MM3.jpg (261kb) downloaded 14 time(s).

Just for fun, download the DLL from the forum thread that I mentioned yesterday, and use it to replace the one you've already got. (Just in case, I would recommend renaming your old DLL by tacking ".OLD" onto the end of the file name, or copying it somewhere else.)

Be extra certain to UNBLOCK that replacement DLL after you've downloaded it and put it in the C:\ProgramData\My Movies\DataProviders folder.

Does that change anything for you?

Yes, that worked! My first ever install of MyMovies was this January. Strange that the current download file ships with a dll that's too old to work.

Thank you!

Btw, does the general IMDB import do anything other than possibly finding a match to an already existing film file?
