Hello!. I've been (happily) using Collection Management v4.07 for years with no issues at all. Just recently (past 2-3 days), I've not been able to add any DVD titles to my collection. I can enter a barcode, search by name, etc. and find the title that I want. When I click the "" button, I get a pop-up message box stating "The title "xyz" was not added, as its data could not be downloaded from the WebService. Please try again later.
I've tried again later several times over the past few days. This is happening with multiple titles. I'm running from a Windows 8 PC that doesn't change much. The only thing I can think of that has changed is Windows monthly patch updates.
I can log into this website and forum. Just don't know where to look next as far as troubleshooting goes.
Thanks.

You just have a very, very uncommon usage scenario, as you do not use the online service to get data for your titles - that is very, very uncommon :-) Having trouble installing or upgrading to My Movies 5? I experience exactly the same issue.. at first I thought that that specific title is corrupted or something within the internet dbase, but after 10 different attempts I saw that its something else.. WHAT IS MOST astonishing is that you can still easily without any issues download TV series details at 4.07 version so there is no apparent reason why the standalone movies do not work - and TV series do work.
I like the GUI of 4.07 within Windows Media Center blue environment.. does the 5.x version look exactly the same or are there some differences?
P.S. and updating of all the content for already added movies works as well.. so It makes it really hard to understand why did you have to block adding new titles.. really.

There is a reason movie data won't download. It was turned off. Can't say why TV series data still downloads. Perhaps just an oversight. And yes, the GUI within WMC is the same on My Movies v5. My DVD/Blu-ray CollectionHome Theater Gallery

well thanks on that but I tried to install Version 5 on a spare computer to get acknowledged with it before hitting the live, existing installation with almost 2000 titles. What I found out so far: immediately upon finishing installation it asks to do the sync and this step can not be skipped. What should I do .. or what would happen if I keep two different datbases on two different computers? One is at the summer house (less movies), the full one is in my apartment. I fear that the sync would either delete the stuff from the major one or add all tittles to the summer house computer. that is first question.. the second on this page is mentioned a must-see video for upgrading from version 4 to 5 but the video has been deleted from you tube. https://www.mymovies.dk/download/windows/my-movies-3-or-4-upgrade-details.aspxSo could you advice me what to do with those two computers? I thought about creating a second separate dbase username for the "summer house computer", make a backup of the existing database and after installing a new one log in with a new user ID - but would I be able to import back the previous database? Or is there some security check that the previous dbase belonged to User A and therefore user B can not import it back? absolutely the best feature you could do would be some "converter" or XML file generated by version 5 so that it could be imported manually to version 4.

Sounds to me like your best bet would be to have separate accounts, one for your apartment and one for your summer house. Short of that your installations are going to insist they mirror each other. And yes, a local backup is not tied to an account. As such, you could create a local backup at your summer house then use that backup to restore your local database once logged in to a newly created account. So no luck after all.. I prepared a fresh new installation of a "test machine" - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1 EN , installed only device drivers + My Movies 5.3 downloaded directly from mymovies.dk - oh btw.. you should update the installer. It says that .NET 4.5 is required but even when you install it at the end while clicking on My Movies Collection icon it asks you to install version 4.7! (I installed 4.8).
After getting the Collection management working with clean, new dbase with a test user ID it asked me synchroniize. I did - it completed with no errors. After that I tried to download and one movie (worked). So I deleted this test record and with no entries visible in the dbase I tried to import 1.2 GB .MMB files from existing My Movies 4 dbase from the "apartment computer". It started importing and got stuck somewhere around 80 per cent with an error message that the import could not be completed (or something like that). So i restarted the computer and now I can not even get Collection Management version 5.3 started .. the green loading bar stops around 40 per cent saying that the internal database is corrupted, that I should restart the computer to let the background processes fix that or contact support my movies.dk.
I tried to copy that 1.2 backup dbase file three times from the previous export location. I even exported it another time, it does not matter whether I try to restore dbase from USB flash drive or the backup file is copied to a local drive and trying to import if from there. There is probably no need to mention that in both cases the export on My Movies 4 finished successfully. Anybody seeing something similar? Could it be the size 1 GB+ file causing the problems?

I can only speak from personal experience. While I don't use My Movies v5 I did install it on a second laptop to play around with it. Had no trouble from there restoring from a My Movies 4.07 backup which was over 5 GB in size though my local database is all Personal Titles, no WebService titles. Wish you the best of luck. Perhaps Binnerup and/or other forum members will chime in to offer some assistance. My DVD/Blu-ray CollectionHome Theater Gallery

OK, problem solved.. the instructions how to upgrade (uninstall MM4) and get MM5 are simply inadequate. There is much room for serious improvement (like the website itself - too many links are not working, totally redundant information on MM3 vs. optional download of MM2 - who CARES to inform those users that they can not expect to download any actual data from the online service??)
so the issue is that thoughout the import the Win7 system asks you to confirm that you give permission to this SW to make "some changes" .. the betrayal is that it does not ask you at the start of the importing of the movie entries to the online database but somewhere past 60-70 percent of the process.. if you do not give the permission (clicking on OK), after several minutes the computers evaluates this as NO and the import stops with no apparent or clear message WHY..
this is SO STUPID!! STUPID! .. you simply can not expect ppl to disable the Windows User Access List in Win 7 (or how is it called) expecting them that THIS would get in. As I wrote before I made a totally fresh installation of Windows 7 where Windows UAL is - of course - turned on. IF I had not been present for the second attempt at all time in front of the screen - I would miss it. My 1.1 GB backup dbase file took almost 3 hrs to import back to "online" sync. Who the hell would expect to SIT IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN for that time??!!
Im sorry. BINNERUP, but I see this forced upgrade to version 5 as totally inadequate and there is MUCH ROOM for improvement - not to mention even false information in the installer (required .nET 4.5 while in fact you require 4.7 or higher). I would strongly advise a) to stick this thread to the top of the support section because I can easily see that there are hundreds or thousand of others users of 4.07 who simply do not update their dbase every week (and thus have no knowledge of the issue yet., b) you could easily amend the 4.07 error msg while retrieveng the data from online service via .. OR you are still using 4.07 which is no longer supported - see this article" and c) it would certainly help many others in weeks and moths to come to have a step by step tutorial what to expect while updating their 4.07 to 5.x something.. with screenshots at major steps. I would gladly put it here but it seems that there is no way to upload pictures and comment on it.

There are very few users back on version 4 - this software is six years old. We are not going to make huge changes for the very few who have not yet upgraded. Regarding the UAC prompts - we cannot prompt beforehand on this - this is how it works in Windows - you have to prompt when you need to make the administrative task. it seems to me that you did not get my point regarding the prompt message asking "do you want to allow SW to make changes?" - in one of your posts either in the forum or on the website you specifically mentioned that the sync process can take very long, several hrs not exceptional. There should be warning that ppl should expect this behavior and to be frustrated seeing in the morning that the import failed with no apparent reason.

Is it possible to create the administrative task much earlier, when a request to grant permission will definitely be noticed by the user, and keep that task waiting until it's needed during the import?
Just wondering out loud...
