Version 6 is now available for download (https://www.mymovies.dk/products/iphone-ipad.aspx). It appears that there will no longer be a standalone purchase version, which I find extremely unfortunate and consider to be a significant mistake.

If you want to use version 6, you are now forced into a subscription model. I have a few questions about this:

The following is stated on your website (https://www.mymovies.dk/products/ios6/support/my-movies-6-upgrade-options.aspx):

“The cross-platform premium subscription at a permanent 50% discount: $24.99 (USD), €29.99, or £24.99 after discount. Yearly payment. (Recommended)”
What does cross-platform mean in this context? Do I need a cross-platform subscription if I work on a PC with the “My Movies for Windows” software and use the iPhone app?

“The iPhone/iPad standard subscription at a permanent 35% discount: $12.99, €14.99, or £12.99 after discount. Yearly payment.”
So I pay €14.99 per year, but can only use the software on my iPhone/iPad and not on Windows?

“The non-renewable two-year subscription option with 50% discount: $19.99 (USD), €22.99, or £19.99 after discount. Includes app and service operation for two years, after which the app becomes read-only.”
What exactly is included in this package? Can I use this package on both my iPhone and Windows, but the subscription simply expires after 2 years?

The standalone version have been replaced by an unlimited purchase with 24 months of operation.

For the users who have upgraded every second year, where a new version was introduced, there is effectively no change - you have a purchase option that is not an auto-renewable subscription, which provides service operation for 24 months. If you choose to renew these during December two years from now, you are offered another half price on new 24 months at that time.

We specifically maintained the option of purchasing on a not auto-renewing option for those who do not want subscriptions.

What we no longer have is an option to continue on old versions for many years, as we continue to have to provide costly services for as long as the app is running.

So for those that chooses not to upgrade to new versions, there is a change - for others, there is not.

The single platform purchase have no relation to Windows, as your current My Movies 5 Pro version also does not - but many features are free in Windows, and some users likely can do with those.

Thanks for clarifying that. The only thing that changes in this case is the price, and unfortunately by 28%. At the end of 2024, I was paying €17.99 for the 5 Pro version. Now I have to pay €22.99 for the same service.

You mustn't forget that we customers bring your product to life by scanning covers and adding missing data, which is very time-consuming.

There have been a price adjustment as everything else, including our operating costs for the past two years.

It differs a bit how big it is depending on currency conversions (we use Apples price tiers).

We absolute appreciate all the hard work that so many of our community members do to improve the service for themselves and others - this is absolutely a requirement for a a community based service such as ours.

I can mention that within the past 2 years, we have increased the cost of data maintenance staff by more than 40%, as we want to continue to pre-add a large number of titles, and supply this also with very good coverage of movies and tv series for streaming offerings.

The community still works - but we are spending a lot more funds the past years on ensuring that data coverage is as good as it can get.

I have to say, I have noticed that the database has proven much more reliable lately when it comes to new titles. I didn't realize this was due to deliberate action on your part. Thank you!

I also want to say that I'm very much in favor of your move to a subscription service. I have always felt that pressuring people to pay for new versions of your apps was a dishonest business practice. Even though it is obviously not illegal, it is misleading. By providing your services by subscription, you are improving transparency and making it clear to your customers that there are ongoing costs associated with the work that you do to keep it running, and that those costs must be paid for by the people who benefit from it. This is the proper way to do business, and I commend you for making this decision.

I have a few questions I need you to answer before I can choose a subscription:

* One thing I've never been able to figure out is how to export my collection to file (CSV, XML, JSON, etc. I don't care what the format is. I just need to be able to analyze my data.) Do I need the Windows desktop application to do this?
* Does the cross-platform premium subscription include a license to all features of My Movies Collection Management for Windows or do users still need to purchase points to use some features? (I do see in your documentation that this subscription "removes all limits on every supported device" but this is not the same as saying that all features are included in all products.)
* I've noticed in my trial of My Movies 6 for IPhone that my box set titles are not nested within the box set entry, even though I have "Nest Disc Title Box Sets" turned on. Is this a bug, or is it just an consequence of the 50 title limit?

Thank you for your support.

So:

1. You can export CSV from the E-mail collection or Export collection function in settings of the mobile apps. The Windows and Mac apps can export an XML file.
2. The cross-platform subscription includes everything, on all platforms - no additional points or anything needed.
3. If you only got 50 titles sync during a trial, then yes, that will not specifically include box set parent and child titles, but there can also be box sets in our service which does not have child titles.

December 2026.

However, we released a 5.50 version for Android which contains many of the features that version 6 on iOS got included this year.

So, several additional features besides that is planned for Android next year.

I recall last time there was an update that you basically said the intent was for it to last for two years, so other than abandoning older versions, doesn’t sound too different.

But…. Will you update the macOS version?

I’m currently using an older version on my phone to manage a second collection (that of my late partner), with my main collection in the current version (well 5). Yrs I could switch by logging out and in but it takes ages to sync because both collections are quite large. Using another device would not be as convenient but could work as I work to merge things. Is there some other option to handle a situation like this short of exporting, merging, and asking to import the result? (That’s where I was headed but maybe into a different system than yours.)

Answers to these things may determine if I need a multi platform license.

Based on the email I got about MyMovies 6 - and I can't find clarification on the website - I have a question.
The email says
"MyMovies 6" -> subscription for either iPhone & iPad (14,99€/year) or all plattforms (29,99€/year) (till end december)
"MyMovies Pro" -> one payment for iPhone & iPad valid for 2 years (22,99€)

But is there a difference between "Pro" and "without Pro" in functionality? Or is it just a different name based on the "payment"? (feels strange though)
(I've always had the "Pro" version, MyMovies 5 in the 2 year bundle)

Because I am really thinking the quit my MacOS version of MyMovies (still version 2.11) as it lacks to much the features vs the iPad version, which I use for 95% of the time, and switch to the MyMovies subscription, but the name suggests I am missing out the "Pro" then.

I also wonder if MyMovies is 100% Apple Silicon architecte and if we can run the iPad version on a Mac with Apple Silicon? If so, the MacOS version would be really obsolete...

same question here: what about MyMovies for Mac?
Will we get an update to V 6.X or what does the new premium version (cross-platform) include? If it meant iPad + Windows it would be useless for me and I would go iPad only.

I'm still very, VERY confused about all this.

First of all, maybe I'm clumsy and it's my fault, but I can't find anywhere a simple list explaining any improvements or new features brought by the latest version 6 when compared to v5. So, why exactly should I feel interested/encouraged to upgrade?

Second, I'm currently using the paid version on my iPhone (v5), my iPad (v5) and my Mac (v2). So, that means that I should have to pay an upgrade for iPhone, another one for iPad, and, whenever a potential v3 is released, ANOTHER ONE yet for my Mac. Is that right?

Third, since you removed the single payment option and replaced it with a 24-month subscription plan (be it renewable or not), but you offer both a "standard" and a "cross-platform premium" subscription... Does that mean that a "cross-platform premium" plan will allow me to use it BOTH on my iPhone and my Ipad, unlike what happens now, where I had to make separate purchases for each device? (something that I discovered only after having purchased the one for iPhone first, convinced that I could install it too on my iPad, as it is the case with almost every other app I own)

And, then, what would be my price tier options? How much would it entice if taken a a monthly payment?

As I said, VERY confused about it all, and, honestly, not very encouraged to keep using your apps. There are other, much more fluid and easier to use, with a much better designed interface, providing the same kind of service, and the main thing that made me lean to yours was the fact that I was not forced to a subscription, as those other apps do. If that adavantage is gone now... Well.

It have never been the intent that users would be able to continue to receive service for many, many years without upgrading, so yes, the change here this year is that it is no longer a choice to do so - you can purchase up to 24 months service only, or be on an active subscription - this gives users who have chosen to upgrade the exact same offer, where the option to continue on old versions for many years are no longer going to be an option.

There are no plans for a new major version for Mac at this time.

We are not planning a new major version on Mac - we unfortunately cannot earn back in the costs, and therefore Mac is in a maintenance mode.

There is no longer a Pro version as a separate version, so we have changed so that both the 24 months purchase, and an active subscription will identify as "Pro".

So, the choice is between a 24 months one-time purchase, or, the subscription models - the functionality is the exact same, only the purchase model differes.

Naturally, the cross-platform option differs in such that it is cross-platform.

My question remain: is mymovies for iPhone/iPad compatible with Apple Silicon (Mx processors). I can't find it on the apple store, but maybe you can activate that for the app?

Apple Silicon Macs can run many iPad apps directly from the Mac App Store if the developer enables it (look for "Designed for iPad"), offering a seamless way to access mobile-first apps with touch alternatives provided by Apple for mouse/trackpad interaction.

If this ware possible, that would be truly an advantage (and you wouldn't need a dedicated Mac version anymore...)

Bummer. I am still using V3 on my iPhone because this was the last version were searching a title (or part at the beginning) did jump in your (alphabetic) list of movies, meaning the search still kept the order. Much easier when checking in the store. The V4 and v5 may have a stronger search feature, but it only show the movie detail screen, not where you are in the list, which is unpractible (at least for me). If V3 don't work anymore, it back to jumping letters (so small for my clumsy fingers) and a lot of scrolling throiugh the list. The V4 - V5 (and most likely V6) search, gives a "chaotic" list of results, especially when you used keywords in your Titles ;). Guess I can't be perfect for everyone...
(just to be sure: I use that V3 ADDITIONAL to my payed last version of mymovies)

They are marked to not be available on Mac, but they are compatible if we mark them - they are not intended to be used on Mac, and the interface is not designed for Mac - the thing is, we do not have a high number of users on Mac compared to the mobile apps, and this is why economy means that we are not planning a new major version on Mac.

However, if users should start using the iPhone/iPad app on Mac, it will be another nail in the coffin for the native Mac app.

It may be the future for Mac, that a new version is released where we are putting more focus on UI for iPad, but we do not know.

We generally like the thought of a native app on Mac, but we also have to accept that we cannot put a lot of economy into it, if we can earn back perhaps 20% of that - it would put the whole service in risk doing that.

CLZ have stopped providing their Mac app, Delicious Library have closed their down, DVDPedia have given up on their Mac app - we are trying to maintain it, but Mac users will have to accept that this is not on same level of new functionality as the mobile apps.

There are several limitations that we need to consider if we focus on an updated iPad OS that can run on Mac, like, disc id reading is one example.
